My rear view mirror (one with the auto button) has a mysterious blob in the upper left(ish) corner. It still reflects, but it looks real bad, and now the whole mirror reflects double.

I don't think that it can be fixed, I was just wondering what went wrong, and has anybody else had this problem.

Chemical inside the mirror starts to leak and screw everything up. Don't let it drip onto your dash because it's caustic and will eat into it.

New mirrors of the same style (Donnelley) don't use the chemical anymore and you can buy replacements that have compasses and thermometers and all kinds of nifty crap.

William,
If you do decide to replace it with another Donnelly, see if you can get the mirror blade-part to use your existing mount. If so, you can avoid having to pull off the mirror button and remount the new one (a large pain, and it doesn't mount in the right spot). The wiring is very easy to do. I recently replaced mine on my 98. Lemme know if you have any questions.

Donnelly is proud of their stuff. That is too expensive, i think I saw it at one of the typical Rover parts places for ~$100.

If so, see if it's the new style (blue tint) or the old style (amber tint). If it's the old style, you'll be in same situation in a few years...

mine went ka-pooey just over a year ago and i have yet to replace the thing. makes the passengers in the back look all funny and wierd. kinda cool. but if you are looking for a cheaper alt. check out JC Whitney. they have some for about $100 or so. just have not been motivated to fix it.

is it beer-thirty yet?

You're stuck with Donnelly, they hold the patent for the mirror technology that is used in rear view mirrors.

That and the fact that there are only about three or four (maybe five) automotive mirror manufacturing companies in the world and nobody else seems to want to get into the business.
