I am at 40K mi/2.5 yr into my warranty. I was thinking about getting the extended warranty as I don't plan to replace my LR SII any time soon.

What do people think about the extended warranty to 100K/+2or3 year? I can get it for $3750 (with $100/deductible)is it worth it? Can I expect repair bills to exceed that price?

I have already replaced my water pump and kept up with all the recall issues, so I haven't really paid anything to date. I just don't wan to get burned by this car in the long run...as reliability seems to be an issue with LR

well i bought a 4 yr/42K warranty for my '96 and paid $1700. i bought it with about 42K on the truck. got it through Auto Advantage and Hal Moses. the actual warranty is from Buyers Choice. Hal is a broker and finds the best deal for you. just check the fine print to see what each one covers. they all vary. but $3750 sounds steep. and my deduct. is $100 as well.

$3750 does sound steep. If possible, I would avoid any deductible. At the price you are quoted, I would demand $0 deductible. For our '96 we picked up a 4yr/48k no deductible warranty from the dealer for a bit over $2k in late 1999. In two years I have collected about $4k in overpriced warrantied work.

Expect to see a lot sensor and electrical component failures as these beasts age.

I went through Hal as well and he got me one through Car Care Connection. It was a pretty good one even though I never used it. It would cover anything that the dealer would. So if you have a lift and the dealer didn't care then the warranty people wouldn't either. At least that's what they told me. However, if you re-gear and put in lockers then you will void it. I canceled it a couple of months after I got it though since I'm going to put lockers in and re-gear at some point. I had $100 dollar deduct and I believe that I only paid about 1800 for coverage up to 10 years 100,000 miles which ever came first.
