Trailer Hitch Installation - D2

by Adam Biossat

Disclaimer - The following is an installation of a Land Rover brand hitch onto a 2003 Discovery S. It is a very easy install that doesn't really need an article but if you don't have the hardware, this will tell you what you need.

TOOLS NEEDED

Hardware Needed

These two holes are directly under the rear bumper and in front of the gas tank. There are nuts welded in these holes. Use the two 1/2"-13 x 4" grade 8 bolts and washers to hang the hitch from these holes.

These mounts are welded to the frame next to the gas tank. There is an identical one on the other side of the gas tank. The 1/2"-13 x 5" grade 8 bolts and washers are used here.

The hitch comes in three pieces. They are held together by the 4 1/2"-13 x 2" bolts and washers. The hitch is up side down in this picture.

Here the hitch is assembled and is right side up like it will install on the vehicle.

This is what the hitch looks like when mounted on the vehicle.

Make sure that the 5" bolts on the sides do not touch the gas tank. You may have to use an extra washer or two to space the end of the bolt away from the tank.

Warn receiver mounted shackle.

SUMMARY

This installation only took about 15 minutes. The majority of my time was used to figure out what length bolts I needed. I bought this hitch used and it didn't come with the hardware. If you have any questions email me at [email protected] .
