How to make your own limb risers for under $20
Here is a picture of the whole kit complete and unhooked from the truck. It consits of (1) turnbuckle, (4) clips, (4) cable crimps, and (2) lengths of plastic coated cable. (mine are 104" from end to end but yours may differ). The cable is actually a dog running line that you would buy to string up between trees. A 25' was more than enough for me and should be enough for any Land Rover regardless if you are going to make yours removable or more permanent.
I started by making loops at each of the cable (still in one 25 section) to attach the 1st two clips too. These clips would be attaching to the already existing eyehooks on my Safari Gard front bumper.
If you already dont have eyehooks, you may want to consider drilling holes on the brush bar to put eyehooks in. Drill them so that they point more towards the windshield in a 45-75 degree angle rather than straight up and down to help strengthen the hooks (like the SG eyehooks). (The veiw in the picture below is looking down from above the corner of the brush bar).
I then ran the cable behind the first column on the roof rack, straight across
and around the back of the column on the other side and back up to the other eyehook.
Now you will need to be on top of the truck in the center of the roof rack. Take up the slack in the cable until tight. Mark the amount of cable you will need to cut out. Use a hacksaw to cut the cable. I found that wrapping the spots you are going to cut with electrical tape helps in cutting the cable. Once you have the cable cut into the lengths you need, make your end loops for the 2nd set of clips. HINT: dont crimp these ends yet in case you need to adjust the cable shorter as I made the mistake of doing when I made my set. I then attached the turnbuckle onto the cables.
Once on top again, start to tighten the turnbuckle until the cables are tight. If you have tightened the turnbuckle all the way closed you need to adjust the cable shorter. This is why you didnt crimp these ends yet. Remember that the cables may stretch over time so you will want some room for later tightening of the turnbuckle when they do so make sure you plan on this needed space when you final crimp.
Thats how I made my set of limb risers. The only thing I would change with my current set is that I would use a thicker cable next time.
