Yes i put this in General as I'm generally wondering
I just acquired a 1984 Series 3 exmod petrol 24v FFR in fairly decent condition
Its been modified a bit.
Roverover drive unit
front disc brakes
other small stuff.

Is there anyone here with EXMOD vehicle experience that can answer questions .
Like
What have i gotten Into.
Regards
Jim
PS I DID NOT PAY 15000 as window sticker says
and all lights and lenses and canvas top replaced with new stuff so its gotten better

I would think Doug Crowther would be a good resource. He is here on occasion, more so over at DefenderSource.

Re: Generally speaking

Hello All
My EXMOD 109 is coming along well.
She drives realy well and runs great since ive spent a fortune on her.
Aint nuthin money cant fix other than your health
Ive had to get a lot of stuff from overseas UK , Cyprus, Greece.
Cyprus is best, being an ex British colony still having an airbase and having sold off all their spares and
MOD trucks to Landrovertreasures.com
ive gotten a lot of new old stock parts so ive stuck with the 24 volt waterproof ignition and a 24 volt alternator.
I have removed over 200lbs of FFR radio wire , during disassembly ive found 5.56 and 7.62 clips (not magazines )in the cruddy places
Being Air portable shes seen some cable time due to cable gouges and squishes around lifting eyes.
Most likely ship time also.

I have to ask
For those with Series experience
WHO THE HELL DRIVES THESE THINGS LONG DISTANCE , even with roverdrive i get to 80 KPH = 49.something MPH
Ive got florida old ladies passing me and cursing.
I dont think ill be driving it to Alaska anytime soon.Maybe Saint Augustine is about it.
When complete she will have roof top tent and all the trimmings i had on my disco.
Pictures later after the NEW ugly sand paint job

Hello Dan,
Hello Walter
Hello Dave
Stay well

Re: Generally speaking

What's your phone GPS say your speed is? That seems awfully slow, but depending how much weight you've got and what size tires I could see you causing it to not get very fast. That said I daily drove a 2.25 petrol 90 but it would do 65 comfortably with the 5 speed and 3.56 gears. Maybe swap the 4.7s for something else but I'd think your engine may not be working quite as well as it should.

I'm in the process of putting an 88" back on the road so maybe I can speak more accurately in a few months... or years.

Thanks For reply
Didnt think of the phone GPS.
But it still feels like 50 MPH.
Im sure the engine is running well or may be not sure.
I am new to this kinda 4x4 tractor.
Seems to run well enough.

Does anyone put tachometers on these 2.5 petrols
if so whats a cruising RPM.

Howdy all
My EX MOD 90 % Finished
Sandys
First trip out on Daytona Beach
Now im in need of a roof top tent and then she replaces my Discovery totally.

But then the Roamerdrive Blew.

Now its fixed again.
I love this truck , i can take it apart with minimal tools and repair it practicly anywhere.
The adventure continues
P.S
I now consider myself an Expert on EX MODs and sourcing parts from around the world.

i am not familiar with how the 2.5 revs in cruise or whats max rpm regardless i dont have a tach.

Im cruising between 80 and 100 kph in overdrive
sometimes it sounds like its reving more than it should others its smooth.
otherwise its running great.
The military distributor has no vac advance its fly weights only.
Thanks
Jim
