What brands of differential fluid do you guys recommend? I am planning to get the 75/90 or 80/90 synthetic differential fluid but there are so many different brands. I was thinking of buying Lucas brand gear oil. Any suggestions.

oils are like girlfriends, everyone likes something different and what they have, they think is the best.
sitck with a synthetic and you can't really lose.
synthetics have a higher heat tolerance than dino oil and will take longer to break down.

amsoil
mobile one
redline

in that order, and change it regularly,
bearings will last long time!

oh, then there is "SUV" oil!? :D

Is this the correct procedure to change differental fluid?

1. remove the drain plug.
2. allow oil to drain.
3. put the drain plug back on.
4. remove the filler plug.
5. add diff fluid up to filler hole.
6. put filler plug on, with o-ring.
7. done. Ok to drive.

This is the first time I have done this and I don't want any surprises.

remove the filler plug first and check level. That way you know that you can get fluid back in and it will drain faster.

Use any fluid that meets LR specs, change when it discolors or when you ford water.

If you have the time, jack up the opposite side of the axle to get as much out as possible.
BTW, I always use Hylomar on the plugs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my D1 didnt have an o-ring on it when i changed the diff fluid. It also hasn't gotten any water in it or leaked and I've gone thru water almost ud to the hood may times. Perhaps I'm just lucky?

When I changed my diff fluid, I used 80/140 supertech (walmart brand) with 1 quart of lucas oil stabilizer in each diff. If you look on the bottle, it recommends 50-100% in diffs
