It's terrible career choice. My sympathy goes out to the poor suckers who slog through the shit every day to benefit our kids.
I don't really know about my K-8 teachers. Either I just can't remember or I never knew their back story. But during high school I knew my teachers. Statistically I have no idea the male to female ratio, obviously there were more female teachers. Academic classes consisted of more female teachers, while electives were mostly, if not all, male for me.

I still do not know what you feel teachers should be paid. Seems like a pretty good gig if you were into that sort of thing. I wouldn't want to do it, I hate most peoples kids.

The reality of the tax overhaul and cuts are setting in, Trump handled the round circle meeting with students and parents superbly, no other president I can remember would have even tried to pull that one off. The CPAC speech today was fantastic. Trump is getting his sea legs now, watch him roll. Hello 50%.

As far as the FL Shooting. It was a breakdown by local, state and Federal officials BIG time. It's a tragedy that could have been prevented.

FBI notified, twice
Deputy called to Home 30+ times
Deputy failing to enter the school
School and counselors notified

what else would it take? If you see something, say something? Not so sure about that one.

That's like saying someone can better handle themselves in the Daytona 500 cause they are an active driver.

So we have Air marshals in our sky but can't have school marshals throughout our education facilities? That's not even an argument. Train'em, deputize them, whatever. Give them the tools they need to defend the children.

And something else, this Sheriff in Boward county. Is he really calling for strict gun control after the gross negligence in his own department? He needs to get off the news cameras and do his damn job.

Second Amendment: So you don't have to trust other people with your (or your families) own safety.

Will be interesting to see if he gets re-elected.

You're saying any active driver can win the Daytona? Who's retarded?

You also seem to underestimate the power of money and corporations in politics. Ok I'll admit there's also a large element of too many people watching Rambo and Old westerns who casually think giving teachers guns turns them into an army of John Wayne's. LOL

Can you make a logical counterpoint?

How does shooting shit that doesn't shoot back in any way prepare you for that kind of chaos?

Win?

You're going 200mph in rush-hour traffic. The accomplishment would simply be not ending up dead after a few laps...much like the sportsman taking on the one-man-wrecking-crew

11 teens die every day texting and driving. I propose we ban all smart phones.

we were just discussing this, at work, the other day. we do high tech stuff here so we know what we can or can not do regarding current technologies.

pretty much every car has apple connect or droid connect. so the vehicle and phone connect automatically. it is very simple to blank the phone's screen while the vehicle is not in park. very simple.

fortunately, driving is a privilege not a right so we can impose legislation regarding safety. i for one wish this was already in existence. way too many children die from their phone addiction. and it is an addiction.

also, you can not murder a living being twenty feet away with a phone...unless you strapped an explosive device to the living being and used it to arm the explosive. these are the type of analogies that fall on deaf ears.

daniel was most likely just pointing out they were sportsmen to add characterization. this illustrates why iot is so hard to have dialogue...misinterpretation followed by immediate argumentative responses.

lol I heard another one.. x many people die in car accidents every year. No one is trying to ban cars..

All of these sound good in a facebook feed given 2 seconds of thought and a confirmative nod.

All of them also share a common lack of even the most brief cost/benefit analysis.

If that is the case, then my bad

I assumed he meant that, if armed, they would be very useful in the situation simply because they're used shooting guns.

For all of you who wanted to "Lock her up!" for having classified material on a private server/computer, what is your take about someone who can't even get a security clearance having access to the most sensitive of secrets our government has, on a daily basis?

Top Justice Dept. official alerted White House 2 weeks ago to ongoing issues in Kushner?s security clearance

Agreed.

I took that as there are many people (teachers) who are already very familiar with guns and comfortable with them. How many of those would be willing to carry? Some percentage.

Honestly, I think this is probably one of the better ideas to protect kids, short of turning schools into armed camps - 8' fencing with razor wire; one way in/out protected by armed guards. It doesn't have to mandatory, but I'm sure there are teachers who are willing to carry. Put them through CQB training every 6 months.

Improve the background checks so that ALL felons get reported (not the < 80% in 29 states), that all mental commitments get reported. Of course that's not going to stop these nuts (even though this latest guy and lots before him were "on the radar," unless we start locking people up for things they might do, this shit's going to happen.

And I am definitely against a ban on guns, especially based on their looks.
