Let's guess the odds of 4000 miles without a breakdown.

At a minumum, I'd change the oil the moment before you go and as soon as you finish.

Oil was changed about 50 miles ago, along with tranny fluid, front and rear diff oil, and transfer case. Oil pan dropped and sealed with new gasket. New radiator, new hoses, tires balanced and front end aligned yesterday, drivetrain lubed up. New rear bearings. Fronts are not too old.

Only thing I'm lacking is a serpentine belt and it's on order and should be here tomorrow I hope.

Got the oil and the filter to change it as soon as I get back.

Leave it to my dad and brother to ruin my trip - brother got a week off work and is coming up to Montana for a visit.

Called when I was about an hour outside of town headed up a mountain. Decided to turn around and do the family thing and make my trip later next month.
