old vs. new installed. Third pic is the heat-shrink tubing after I cut a 6" section. Note that it's not a soft rubber like the small stuff you use for small gauge electrical work.

Nice job. How is the inside of your “good”one?

If your bend the old one from ovoid to round, what is the ID and length? You may be able to use a round hose forced into the ovoid shape. This if the inside continues to deteriorate.

I thought about jamming a rubber hose in there (about 3.75 inch diam) but decided to leave good enough alone. Even if the interior continues to crumble I now have a pretty rigid PVC exterior so it should hold up.

My old shrink-wrapped solution continued to shrink from engine heat and it was no longer sealed. Then, to my amazement, I found a replacement rubber hose at Atlantic British! Smeared some silicone inside the connection points and where it mates to the engine bay wall. Works like a champ.

looks like the one that Abran at carrs4x4.com designed and had made. he has some aluminum replacement coolant parts, as well.

Oh no... I did that years ago, and I'm still picking that shit off after removing the snorkel. A thousand years from now I'm convinced that little silicone boogers are all that will be left of my DII, and some no-name archaeologist will be claiming they were used for ceremonial purposes in a late night documentary.

Cheers,
