This has been recommended by folks here for my D1.
Apologies, - but what's the special value of this upgrade? and why only the front?

Back in the days when there were more than 100 D1's on the road, and guys built them up, the addition of larger than stock tyres were thought to be reason enough to get vented discs. That, and extended periods of braking at low speed operation. You only do the fronts because the fronts do 60% plus of the braking and vented rotors are not available for the rears. I have Defender brakes on both of my '95's, I run 33's and operate in a pretty mountainous area, I think they're a pretty good up grade.

"Defender brakes" is too broad. 110 calipers take the larger area pads but are not wide enough for vented rotors. 90 calipers take the same larger area pads, however, they are also wider to accommodate the vented rotors.

So if you want to run vented (wider) rotors (regardless of whether they are slotted/ drilled) you want D90 specific calipers.

If you want to run standard D1 solid (thinner) rotors, you want 110 calipers.
