hah, theres probably a few that would like to trade with you.

after looking at it I want to redo it. I just copied the dimensions of the 14CUX bracket. The adjustment in the AMR3606 is less than the V8 cable, and after looking at it I think rover compromised the cable bracket shape to fit the cruise diaphragm. So from that pic the cable will be lowered .375 and moved back a little. That makes the plate flat so 2 less bends is good. Critical dimension there is kickdown cable to shaft. I'm leaving those at the same dimensions as the 14cux. Don't want to disrupt the transmission black magic. Which leads me to my biggest concern. 280k on a transmission thats never had a filter change and I need to drop the valve body to swap the cable. I give that thing until November at best before it craps out.

Just put the old ATF fluid back in...

I kid... but fantastic work, sir!

That's pretty cool. I remember back in 2000 I had a factory rep telling me some Bosch Disco1's got built. I'm sure they all got crushed by now. Probably needed to test the drivetrain before the Disco2. He swore they existed t the time.

looked at the fuel rail brackets tonight and may have run in to an expensive problem

the fuel rail is slightly wider on the Bosch than the GEMS/14CUX

fuelrail.jpg

The injectors can handle some misalignment, but the injector bodies are touching the lower plenum when installed with o-rings.

the narrower body of the gen 3 injectors will clear the manifold. 0280155844 is the modern gen 3 equivalent of the 19 #/hr. Supposed to atomize better at low speeds than the previous generation, so maybe it'll be an upgrade in itself.

The D2 injectors are 10mm shorter so the misalignment would show up with the longer D1 injectors. That and only zee germans are allowed to get away with square pressure vessels

think I got the air filter figured out. Point A to B is no problem, but throw a giant MAF in the mix and it becomes a challenge without ditching the 2nd battery or the snorkel.

when the camel trophy went from 200 tdi to 300tdi they ran into the same problem many of us have: how do you fit a second battery and a snorkel with this plastic box in the way? I worked around it similar to how safari snorkel did, moved it over and cut a hole in the side. I didn't like it, but it worked for my regular boring production disco. Camel trucks took a different approach. Since the 200tdi inlet went through the fender (there is a circular boss leftover on all D1s) hooking up a snorkel was no problem. The 300tdi solution was to use a defender air canister and inlet hose (esr3032) put the intake on the output and joined it to the stock turbo intake hose. This fixes the snorkel plumbing and 2nd battery problem. The LHD trucks have the hose rubbing against the master cylinder so I suspect they would go through these frequently if used as regular vehicles. They also don't have the ABS modulator in the way. I ditched that a long time ago, so I've got room for this setup.

The plan is to recreate the 300tdi canister mount on the fender, use a spectre 3" elbow with a 1.5" CLR so no space is wasted, a mandrel 4" CLR 90 from that to the metal MAF connector salvaged off a RRC canister (same end as a NAS 90 and pre facelift disco) then flex ducting to take it from the MAF to the plenum. It'll sit on rubber isolated pegs like the RRC setup and ideally a QD tube clamp so I can change air filters without tools

The flex duct that rover uses claims a 30mm CLR, but the supplier molds the cuffs to the hose so its no something I can easily assemble at home. I'm going to be using the cheap spectre flex hose for now. I may get some of the flexflyte super (what I believe to be the rover OE hose supplier) and just silicone on some cuffs if the spectre stuff ends up being poor quality.

It fits in theory, barely, but it should get the job done.

I also think the flex hose from a 98 v8 defender (which I believe superseded the molded NAS intake hose when supply ran out) would work, but the plenum cuff is the wrong ID for the bosch.

Couldnt find a way to fit the MAF That wasnt kluged so hit pause
Revisiting this with a microsquirt ecu. Looked into all the options and the open source kept bringing me back to the ms
ECU is cheap
Building an all new harness from scratch is not

Going to attempt to retain the canister vent solenoid that none of the aftermarket ECUs seem to support. That will require tinkering with the firmware source code

So the tach out has a current limit of .3A. Since IO is extremeley limited on the microsquirt vs other megasquirt controllers the around to drive the purge solenoid is one of these.

AC and cooling fan operation is completely isolated from the ECU. Check engine light also goes away.

Going coil packs. The ms doesnt have any coil drivers so a bosch external coil driver is used. Lots of applications in the vw audi. 2000ish A4 for example. Distributor delete and crank sensor from https://www.megasquirt-v8.co.uk/index.php

Since I was lazy when I installed the cam and didnt cut the retainer Ill need a way to keep it from walking out. ROW 14cux trucks got a cam button. Going to throw that in there

changed my mind on the coil driver. Going to use 2 bosch 106b "smart" coils. VW beetle from 99-2011ish, 2.0 Jetta, some Audi stuff that I don't think was sold here

What purpose does this hole in the factory coil bracket serve? coil brackets.jpg
