Does anyone have any hands on experience with the AutoHome roof top tents? I like their Columbus model but can't seem to find any info besides the company websites. Here's their USA distributor if you don't know about them:

http://www.loftyshelters.com/IndexFrame.htm

How do their tents compare to Hannibal or Eezi-Awn?

Thanks for any info,
Jamil

Jamil,

Bruce at OEX is a big fan of those Columbus tents. I almost bought one but went with the used Hannibal I got from JP at BWO. They ship from Newark so it would not be too bad to get one to MA. More aerodynamic than the Hannibal and quicker setup.

Ryan,

Neither. The Maggiolina tents that Lofty Shelters imports go through Newark.

Marc,

The Hannibal has a big fat foam mattress and a plywood floor, it was toasty in March in VT. You've got to have the right bag wherever either way. Were you in one of those tent-cots?

Kevin,
Do you have the links to OEX or BWO? I am not familiar with either of these vendors. Also, did you just happen upon a used Hannibal that they were selling on consignment? I would love to luck into something like that.

Thanks,
Spencer

JA, just do it...

However if I were to do it again, I would have gone with an eezi Awn. I think their overall quality is better and construction a little more thoughtful.

LOL... those tent cots are a joke.
no i was in a hannibal. i was seriously considering one for myself but wanted to sleep in one first. one of my buddies has one and we went out.
i wasn't impressed, and yes i have a really nice Mountain hardware bag so that wasn't it.
it was just really windy on the roof top. to each his own i guess.

Spencer,

BWO is bwoverland.com

OEX is overlandexperts.com Not really a vendor but a school and expedition supporter.

Marc,

To each his own I guess, I don't see how wind outside a tent has anything to do with being comfortable whether its on a hilltop or a truck. Must have been dahm cold and windy.

I think Dave and Kevin are the only replies that partially answered my question. I wasn't looking for a debate on whethere roof or ground is better. All I know is that I want a roof tent and am thinking to get a Columbus Auto Home over the traditional types. There just doesn't seem to be much info besides the company sites about them.
