There seems to be a real lack of information on the internet about normal coolant temps for the 4.4. Can anyone running an OBD temp gauge comment on observed temperatures? Mine seems to run around 204 down the highway and it drops into the mid 190s at idle. This is the opposite of my experience with the Disco II 4.6, which would climb at idle.

Mine is about the same, ranges from 190's up to 207-209 on the highway (which is, like your experience, different than what I see on my D1). I've been running an Scan Gauge for a couple months and at first it freaked me out, but so far...so good.

This morning, 38F-42F outside temperature over the course of the drive.

Idling in the carpool line at school: 181-184F.
Going 30-45 mph in stop-and-go interstate traffic: 188-190F.
Running 55-70 on the interstate: 188-192F.

So, yeah. The opposite of what we're used to with the 4.0/4.6.

How so, Stu?
More power = more heat. Running hotter at idle makes me think of a bad fan clutch.
Around 65-75F outside, my 4.0 will idle at about 175F, climb to 186-192F on the highway, and up to 201F - going 55mph up a 6% grade.

Good info to have. I'm going to watch mine a bit over the course of the Utah trip. Just wanted to get a good base line to compare.

Peter, my 4.6 would run up around 215 going 55 up a 6% grade.
