If I shat money I'd either find a real clean 77 (so I could have factory disc brakes, had a 76 that frequently lost braking ability) or find one of those brazilian ford licensed cj5 ish vehicles that they used in the first camel trophy. I have way too many vehicles as it is and not enough time to play with them.

Are the Ford Motor do Brasil S.A Jeeps identical except Ford logos and the later inclusion of the Pinto engine?

I have to admit that I began considering vintage Jeeps under two strings of thought. First, they survived the first Camel Trophy, so how bad could they be? And second, even if Jeeps are often classless shit now, what has Land Rover turned into, and is it really any less terrible?

I've only seen pics of the Ford U-50 so I have no idea on the drivetrain. I'm sure it's goofy. It looks like a pre 76 cj5 with a different rear wheel well opening so who knows how different the stampings were.

When men were men, and Jeeps were FJ40s.

Cj5/304 I loved it, had many adventures and could pack quite a bit in it a minimalist kind of way. Had big muds on it with no lift, and despite everyone telling me I'd roll it I never came close. The soft-doors were pretty cool too.

Seen a lot of budget 88s and 90s lately. The two nobs just about sum up the experience.
