Does anyone just take off the plastic trim on the drip edge and just run it bare?

I fitted a D1 SD roof rack to my D2. The mounts are apparently shorter on the D1 which required die grinding the plastic trim at the mounting points to fit the D2. When I move it over to another D2 I'm removing that plastic crap. The drip rail will be painted black to accent it. The only issue then will be the A pillar trim pieces having an exposed upper edge. Who cares really as it's just another truck to beat up until it rust or blows apart anyhow.

When I mount roof tent, I take these trims out, very easy, pushing upper side comes out from bottom. In order to get bare rail in black color I fit scotch 3M tape, insulation tape.
Ten minutes later you forget it.... it is very little difference

Can you take a picture of what it looks like. Could they be sanded then painted and made presentable?
