Sanden pxv16 refrigerant control valve

My neighbors 2006 FFRR's A/C has stopped blowing cold. The low side is 60-62psi and the high side is 160-165psi on a 75ish degree day. She took it to one of the local shops and they recommended a compressor replacement to the tune of $2500.00. I found this article that pretty much covers the exact symptoms and am wondering if anyone has successfully implemented this fix on a LR/RR compressor.
