Well, since, as pointed out in the video, the only person supporting the trade wars in the administration is Peter Navarro, who Don Jr brought to the White House because he found him when he searched "Trade" on Amazon book, and who has said trade is a zero-sum game but when asked if ANY economists back him up gave 2 references - one said Navarro was wrong, the other isn't an economist...

And that Trump's first economic advisor, Gary Cohn quit over Trump's decision to start trade wars...

Yeah, I think John Oliver's writers spent more time with actual economists than Trump has.

Again, when people make outrageous claims, I put stock in those with actual knowledge and experience. YMMV

Didn't watch the vid, but...

Just because someone is biased, it doesn't make them wrong.

I grew up in the 80's & 90's. I think Jordan was better than LeBron.

Just because my opinion is biased due to the cloud of childhood nostalgia, it doesn't make it wrong.

I thought the economy was the "greatest ever?" I thought the tax cuts were going to make wages take off and reduce the deficit?

Guess not.

If things are so bad, why is Obama trying to take credit?

If you look at trends, one could argue the current trend started quite some time ago. Without dates, you could not show where the Trump era begins and Obama ends.

What is most telling is that the statistics that Trump claimed were not real during the election are the ones he touts now. Low unemployment is great, but his policies have not had a great effect on that. Facts are not his strong suit, just fire up the base with nonsense and let it roll. They do not care anyway.

That's a very nice simple graph. This is a little more specific. Also, your graph shows 8 years off Obama and 22 months of Trump. MAGA.

You have to consider, too, that during Obama the trend had no where else to go but up. People were struggling. Folks lost their livelihoods. Entire cities such as Detroit were turned into shit holes overnight. Put all your eggs into one basket and watch it break. But the point being, people went into survival mode. After 2009 you had to get your shit together. Some didn't while most did. It was a reset for many.

Even Obama said it would take a "magic wand" to creep past 4%. Well, what's the excuse now? What if [Trump] hit's 5%? Still Obama's work? Shit, maybe it was Bush's groundwork!

It's easy to find information to support what you puke. What's hard is finding information to support what you puke with substance. You're right people still have a hard time with money, but those same people have the best whiz-bang internet package, 130 channels on their 60" flat screen, smartphones with data packages, new(er) car, and a 3,000sqft home they can barely afford. And we wonder why they don't have a 6 month cash reserve in the bank???

Poverty is killing us, right? STFU. American's don't know poverty. The homeless guy living in the streets of Washington DC has more cash in his pockets than some people make in a year in other countries. Probably more drugs, too. Poverty in America makes about as much sense as gender equality.

The average American home in 2018 is triple the size of the average American home in 1960-1970. TV sets, cars, eating out.....all these so-called normal expenditures today do not even compare to what liberals base their trends on. It's easy to talk about apples, but you're comparing them to oranges. The rich get richer because people want to be Joel Olsteen, but not Billy Graham.

I agree whole heartedly that the trend was going to get better after 2008 regardless of who is in office. My point is when politicians take credit for things doesn’t necessarily mean they impacted it the way they say. Disliking trumps nonsense doesn’t make me a liberal. He is hardly a conservative himself.

Good to see the deficit going down from all the new revenue collected due to the tax cuts.

Government borrowing soars despite robust economy

The government spent $895 billion more than it brought in from taxes and other revenue sources during the past 11 months, the Congressional Budget Office said this week, a 33 percent increase from one year before.

Typically, the deficit shrinks during strong economic times, as the need for costly government support wanes and tax revenue rises. In 2000, the last time the unemployment rate was at its current level of 3.9 percent, the government ran a surplus, meaning tax revenue eclipsed all spending.

Do you think either voting side cares? They don't, as long as their candidate wins and they can validate themselves he or she is doing good according to their own metrics.

I suspect a large number of people in the middle that held their nose and voted for him may sour on his nonsense. His hardcore supporters certainly do not care and that is fine. I imagine if Hilary had won her fans would be similar.
The middle is where the power is in my opinion. I think the empty promises and reckless behavior will lose them, but only time will tell.

It wasn't about holding your nose, it was about a candidate doing what he/she said they would do. Hope and Change. These people you speak of didn't 'hold their nose', they voted for Obama and soaked up 8 years, welcome Trump.
