I'm kicking around the web. Just surfing, not trolling this time. I found an article about Land Rover moving some production because of Brexit and all the pain and suffering and what have you. They will move production of Discovery models. Not sure if they mean Disco Sport, but I kind of think they mean LR4 type chassis. Then the article claimed they would be building the Defender in this new location. That new factory is in Slovakia. What the fuck. What car was ever built in Slovakia? Kind of makes you wonder.

Tatra was built practically on the border between Czech Republic and Slovakia. And Tatra's a real car and truck manufacturer, unlike many.

Slovakia (Bratislava) is a site of one of Skoda manufacturing facilities (another car manufacturer that exists for more than a hundred years). It's been run by Volkswagen since the breakup of Eastern Bloc, and I believe close to a third of world output of Touaregs, Q7s, and Cayennes, are cranked out there.

So for practical purposes Slovakia is a far better, and more experienced, auto manufacturing zone than Solihull or most of the UK.

For context, if you bought a Yugo in 1990 for $3,990 that would be equivalent to $7,700 in today's money.

This is to me at least very old news. its been out in the open for years with construction having started two years ago, and discussed on other forums.

The Factory is in Nitra Slovakia.
Google Land Rover Nitra Slovakia, a ton of images of the half finished factory appear.
LR is actively hiring, https://www.profesia.sk/en/work/jaguar-land-rover/C204862?page_num=1000
Production of the first vehicles may have already happened.... https://spectator.sme.sk/c/20913660...-production-in-nitra-in-the-coming-weeks.html

My brother in law is from Serbia, even he makes bad jokes about the Yugo.

W/R/T Brexit, last month, Land Rover changed their contracts with all of their parts sellers. UK sellers are not p[ermitted to sell Land Rover Genuine parts outside the EEU.

In conversations with other vendors and parts factors, there are rumours this was being done as a Brexit protest. It does seem like lopping off one's nse to spite your face, but JLR has been VERY vocal about the doom and gloom that will result from Brexit.

What I remember ofthe Yugo was:
David Letterman's joke, the model name is Screw Yourself.

There was a review that told everyone to opt for the rear window defroster so one could keep their hands warm while pushing it.
