My brother is looking at two door diesel with a "VM type HR 494 OHV."

Anyone have any experience with it? Google wasn't giving me much.

I've never seen a VM diesel.
Never heard much good about them either.
Didn't they have individual head gaskets for each cylinder?

Every expense spared engineering? With a consistent inattention to details?

This is sounding like a keeper.

I found a little more information on a maritime forum. Apparently there's a separate head for each cylinder, thus four different cylinder head gaskets.

It's got this glorious velour interior though, so there's that.

It's also a special edition.

For the curious... here's a photo of a VM motor.

Engine Diesel VM type HR 492 HI OHV - Turbo D
- 2.4 ltr 4 cylinder Intercooled Turbocharged, Compression: 21.5:1
2393 cc 4 cylinder, Max power: 112.6 bhp (84 kW) at 4200 rpm. Max torque: 183.0 lb ft (248.0 Nm) at 2400 rpm

Source.

By comparison, the 300 TDI generates 111bhp at 3,500 rpm and 195 lb ft at 1,800 rpm.

I haven't driven the VM but I have driven the 300 TDI - even though it doesn't have great hp numbers the torque curve is well suited to the vehicle - peak torque at low rpm, great for low speed off-road driving. It won't go fast but it feels like it has some punch.
