Hi guys. I've change lots of rotors and brakes before, but never on a brit. Will I have to pull the bearings to get the rotors off? Is there anything wierd to expect when replacing the pads? Thanks!

i havnt done the fronts yet on my DII, but they are next. The rears' are straight forward and there is nothing interesting to expect. One screw and the rim hold the rotor, other than the caliper that you can either removes the bolts and pull off, or spin out of the way by removing some of the bolts. The fronts if im not correct are the exact same concept. Goodluck

I did this just last week on the rear. I did not have the screw on the rotor but it looks like it was there previously. Make sure you don't let the caliper hang by the brake lines while you swap stuff out. You may also need to compress the caliper before putting it back on. A small block of wood and C-clamp is a good way to go.

X2 on the impact driver for the rotor screw... I used a #4 phillips bit with no problems... but it was a little tough to find the bit...

Changing the rotors and brakes is pretty straight forward for both front and rear. but if you can come up with an easy solution for removing the dust shields off the front axles that isn't a bitch, I'd sure appreciate it. Those things suck.

Does anyone know how to remove the front? I have looked at it with the wheel off but never with the front rotor off. I want to get my front dust shields off TOO!

Take the rotor off. It's been awhile but I think there are 2 bolt with an 8mm head holding them on.

I just did this last weekend. It was 3 fasteners holding it on, accessible after the rotor was off. 8mm socket. Being able to remove the front shields might have been the best part of the job.

For the screw in the rotor, the right tool makes ALL the difference. With the posidrive #4, it was really easy to get that screw out.

What's bad about the dust shields? Are you guys removing them permanently?

Gonna do front and rear brakes tonight or tomorrow, and would like to know while I've got everything apart.

My dust shields are rattling like cheap tin cans, can't wait to get them off when I change out my front rotors.

dust shield get stuff between them and the rotor, their job is to prevent that but mud and little rocks like to clammer around between.

between those shields and the piece of plastic underbody panel that I swear is put in place to hide leaks, I am not sure which I hate more.

I had to use an easy out for two of my screws. I didn't jack them up too bad and they went back in. Next time they will stay out.

Also remember, clockwise to loosen the calipers, because they are facing you. Don't ask how I know this.

I welded a bolt to mine and got it out, and yeah I left them out!

you probably already know this, and i'm sure you do. but if the master cylinder is full of brake fluid and your pads are shot. pull the top off and put some rags or paper towels the top to catch any fluid that might come back out of the m/s (master cylinder) when you push the piston back into the caliper. it clean up a lot easer.

my 2 cents is that I removed some of the brake fluid out of the master cylinder with a turkey baster to prevent it from spilling; and i used the penetrating spray to get the rotors out without hammering on them too hard. the spray worked like magic. the retaining screw was a bitch to get out, had to cut it with dremel as did not have such a huge philips around....
