I'm thinking about going this year.
What kind of animals do they have?
Does Steve Lister drive his Series truck to this anymore?
Do they still have that giant strip mine crane bucket?

What are the trails like? I am interested as long as it's not a slop fest. My wife and daugther gets back from the UK on the 25th so I can totally make this one.

I bet Steve is there even though the last very recent picture I saw of Churchill was on
the back of a flatbed. Supposedly the heater went out and it was to "cold" to drive.

Can't say that Steve has missed this event, but not certain.

Trail conditions - depends solely on the weather. I've seen it totally dry, and totally a mess. Totally a mess doesn't have to mean you can't get anywhere. Just stay out of the woods. There are plenty of trails in the wide open to have fun on and you can watch the rest of us fools try to kill our trucks.

Extent of mud last year with it raining the Thursday before the event and no rain during. And yes, we go looking for the mud.

Does the Wilds have any activities for little kids? Like animal encounter/petting zoo type stuff? My daughter will be almost 2 and loves animals.

This is a great venue for kids, and the bus tour is worth the trip if you've never been there. If you're only going to come once, the tour where you drive through the enclosures might be worth it too.

I've never seen anything there like a petting zoo though. (Unless you count the truly amazing number and size of ticks.)

FWIW, I know over the past 3 years there have always been lots of children for your kids to play with at this event and can say that my kids have never been bored at The Wilds...

Regarding kids - my boys love the campground at night. Tons of kids running around and having fun.

I am not volunteering, but perhaps with this kind of advance notice, we can come up with something for all the kids to do after dark.

Anyone have any after dark activities that kids would love and remember? Flashlight scavenger hunt? Etc. I am not smart enough to come up with anything worth while.

They dont have a "petting zoo" to speak of but they have a higer priced animal tour called the "wildside tour" or something close to that.. instead of taking the bus tour, you ride in the back of an F-250 and can feed the animals and i believe you make more stops. Never personally done this but everyone who does loves it.

i feel my kids would absolutely love this event. they've never been to anything like MAR or Conclave but have come along for short trips Rausch. I've got to find out when we're going to Disney but i have a bad feeling its the same week. I have GOT to get to this some year.

Yes. It sounds like this is the year to make sure you make it to the Wilds. Sadly, I already know I'll have my kids at Disney this week. :-(

Oh, and sure, they have a "petting zoo"...
