I've been working with the guys from Demer Box to see about doing a group buy for their Bluetooth Pelican Case Speaker. I have had a first generation Demer Box for a few years- and they have only gotten better. With enough commitment I think we can have a way better than retail price. I cross posted this on TDS and NAS-ROW forums in hopes to have a better reach. The more we get in on the group buy, the bigger the savings. Right now we are at $75 off retail with free shipping. The group buy expires on 16DEC. My original post is below. Let me know if you have any questions.

Demer and his crew are all professional audio engineers. I've not heard a better Bluetooth speaker, EVER. And apparently they are only getting better with even faster processors and better speakers. This ain't no "beats by Dr Dr" type ****. The speaker box is based on a Pelican case which allows it to still maintain its high water resistance even as a box while having room to store critical stuff you don't want damaged or wet, plus charge a device via USB and listen to tunes. I've traveled the globe and the box has come with me. It has a battery that just lasted 53 hours (while playing music at medium sound, OUTSIDE in 30 degree temps)in a test they did live on their website. This ain't no homemade jobbie- it's a phenomenal piece of audio gear suited for rugged use. Made in the USA too (Portland, ME) I think the price cut will be based on the number of people interested. Check out the website, Amazon reviews etc. if your interested let me know and I'll put you on the list.

Interesting that the same "I've been working with them on a group buy" claim is being repeated on multiple different car related forums.

Someone's playing a game here.

This looks like a solution in search of a problem. I'm sure it performs the intended task superbly and is thoughtfully engineered and meticulously crafted. I just don't think the world really needs a $400 water resistant boom box. Clearly there is a market for these, as invention is the mother of necessity and humans have rarely hesitated to spend a pretty penny on neat things. It will look great sitting on top of someone's $600 cooler.

It's "water resistant" per their website

Then why construct the thing out of a Pelican case, which claims to be watertight, not just water resistant?

From the Pelican website: Pelican™ injection molded cases are guaranteed to be watertight to a depth of 3.3 feet (1 meter) for 30 minutes (IP 67) if properly closed with undamaged o-ring in place unless otherwise stated.

Putting a speaker in a Pelican case and calling it water resistant degrades the functionality of the product it's modifying. Similarly one could sew a speaker into a Gore-Tex jacket and call it water resistant, but the jacket would not perform as well as an identical one without the speaker.

For $400 the thing had better be watertight. And seriously, who is going to be able to keep track of that "port cover" accessory? It's not attached to the case so will be easily misplaced.

Yeah- no games. Simply extending the group buy to the rover community across a number of forums. It benefits anyone willing to jump on-the more people that sign up, the deeper the discount. Not everyone is cross pollinated across multiple boards.

The Box's rep speaks for itself. Its waterproof with the port plugged (which is easily tethered inside so cant be lost and inserted from the inside) and water resistant otherwise. Everything is sealed. Its absolutely not simply speakers screwed to the side of a pelican case. Do your homework- read the reviews. 50 hour battery life. Im just here to take names, not sell a product. People clearly are paying for a killer piece of gear with this. and close to $100 bucks off is a helluva deal. Its ok if its not your flavour, doesnt mean others wont hop on. Think we have close to 20 so far.

Maybe having high-end music capabilities in a rugged form is not for you- but its absolutely for many people in the overlanding community based on their market and sales. BUT agree, its a commitment as is a $600 Yeti or $1200 Engel. Its simply about personal priorities I guess.

I feel like the Pelican being airtight and just dense in general would have a positive affect on the sound quality, although the back of the speakers appears to be sealed, so I'm not sure how it's supposed to move air through that tube. I also think the price point is a bit high for what it is. I couldn't find a name brand for the speakers themselves, and for $400 I'd like to know what they are (and expect that they're a quality brand).

I bought this one at least a year ago, maybe two. Can't remember. It's a pretty badass speaker. It's been floating in my canoe more than once. I keep my phone in a Pelican micro case and it works great.

I'm not sure what else you would want from a waterproof speaker, or any Bluetooth speaker for that matter. More volume? When you reach the $400 price point the options are endless for quality speakers. Tugela is right, this is solution in search of a problem.

Great more assholes in campgrounds with their boomboxes going. Time to start taking packages of sliced salami. You toss it around their campsite at 2-3AM and then watch them go crazy from the sudden influx of yellow jackets the next day.
