Am i missing something, or are they really worth this much now?

Ben Little's '99 sold for more than that. Of course, his was probably the ultimate, tastefully modified, D1.

Land Rovers are delicate, its impossible to find one that doesnt have a trashed interior or rotten floor boards.

Not true. I routinely see rust-free Rovers for sale here on the west coast. The interiors can look rough after 20 years, but nothing a trip to an upholsterer can't solve.

If you're shopping for a 20-year old car and expect to find something that has been sitting in a vacuum jar, perfectly preserved, for $2,500, you're deluding yourself.

True barn finds come along, but they are rare and expensive. For an uncommon example, even by these standards, see this article I wrote in LRM about a 1969 Series 2 that has 2,000 miles on the clock and is in nearly showroom condition.

They can still be had here cheap sometimes. I just sold a really nice one. Grenade on here has a sweet gold one. That one was super clean low miles. That one I've tried to buy several times. But he hates me

Jeez... 213xxx miles.

The Yelp reviews just from 2017 are a mess... and most are due to dumbasses who bought blindly without showing up, or taking it to an independent mechanic, or etc.... and most admit that.

Makes me feel like I'm sitting on a gold mine.

That truck looks like shit with the black on the bottom like that. I paid 6 for a really clean 96 with every safarigard piece on it. 12000 lb warn winch, 3 Hellas, air lockers , tons of spares. It's got safarigard stage 2 suspension and fox remote reservoir shocks, on 33" mudders.

If that trucks worth 9 then mines worth a ton.

D1 prices are soaring right now, as are RRC's. Try to find a clean D1 or RRC these days - I've looked for months.

You should only look for CA discos. The east coast vehicles are probably all rusted away. I've seen a lot of nice trucks out here. About 2 out of 3 have paint fade or clear coat peeling. That's the trade off I suppose.

If you need somebody to check one out around Sacramento or Reno I could probably help.

I really wanted a white D1, don't care about year, in great shape. Could not find one. I thought I did, and drove all the way to Hickory, NC, only to come back empty because the truck was not as advertised.

I bought a 1995 RRC in remarkable condition this week. Barn find, damn near flawless interior. I have not pulled the carpets up, yet, but have not found any rust otherwise. I had to pay up for it, but it's a candidate to be a $15k RRC with a little work.

Ive been doing the same thing, but there is no way that's worth what they are asking. I'm sure someone will pay what they are asking though.

I guess that's what I get for waiting to get another D1 or RRC....

Clean '96 - '99 D1's are still out there for a decent price but the "word" is getting out there and the "part-hipster" crowd are slowly going to them as they become scared away by RRC prices. As the Classic tide rises it brings with it the Disco! When you start seeing Bonhams, Sotheby's, R&M, Keeno Brothers rolling Disco's up on the block it'll be too late. Discos and to some degree RRCs aren't like long-nose 911's - they're future as "investment-grade" is FAR from certain. I really do believe they have the same hype early Grand Wagoneers had and that's not good. Once we see ICON "making" an RRC or Disco all bets are off!

These Defender importers/builders are snatching every $1k D1 they can find for parts. Try and find a D1 in FL, Safari has cornered that market. At one time people would give away axle housings, but these days they sell for $100's. I wish I still had all the shit I tossed into recycling dumpsters.
