If you have seen my other threads you may know I put a 1000w amplifier in my 1995 Disco 1. This combined with a 25 year old alternator meant bad things. Not sure if the alternator would have died either way, but it died.
So, I bought a used one, which then died shortly thereafter and was sent another used one under warranty, which didn't work out of the box. So having three dead alternators, I decided I am done screwing around. I found an alternator shop in Chicago that is willing to repair/rebuild my original stock one as well as make it 160amp for $325 including taxes.
I have two others sitting here that can have the same thing done to them. Considering it will cost me one more trip to pick them up, I would want a little $ for my time (say $25, total $350+shipping), but I am willing to have the others rebuilt if anyone wants one.
One other thing. If you have ever changed one, you know that three wires go to the alternator. The second replacement I received had a slightly larger bolt on one of the connections so the eye connector wouldn't fit (I drilled it out slightly to fit assuming different manufacturing tolerances). Maybe this is for another model year. Who knows. I can get the number off of it if anyone is interested in this.
Anyway, let me know if anyone is interested and I can get this done.
