Are all D1s factory wired for fog lights?

My 1996 SE7 does not have factory fog lights fitted. I picked up a complete front bumper with factory fog lights and found the wiring connectors for it on the vehicle already. Got a factory fog light switch which appears to plug into a wired receptacle on the dash. No lights. Am I missing an additional relay?

i think all 96 and up are wired for them. the unused switch connectors are sometimes taped up with the harness and you need to remove the external torx bits from the crash pad under the steering wheel to get enough room to fish them out.

relay is drivers kick panel closest to the firewall. NAS fog lights only work with low beams on

I have a D2, but guessing it's the same...you have to have your ignition and low beams ON for the fog lights to work.

Or if you have the right scanner you can program them to stay on with the high beams. I replaced mine with Hella 4000's when I ditched the stock bumper and reprogrammed them a couple of years ago.

Thank you! Must be no relay fitted. I’ll check.

Tell it to the Sheriff. But just to keep it sporty, tell him “fuck the DOT”
IDK, but I'd guess that a good majority of law enforcement have no clue fog lights aren't supposed to be on with the high beams, and most of those that do aren't going to pull you over for it. At least those around here.

It's a D1. Not a single thing you can program into it besides a key.
Running fogs with high beams came up years ago on a jeep fourm. They achieved this with a relay. Edit, I remember now, they bent/cut off one of the connectors on the relay to keep it from making contact.

Well for him to notice you would probably have failed to dim your lights for him. I’m sure he would pull you over for that. If for nothing more than a test of touching your nose and walking a straight line. Then depending on how you do with all that he might want you to put your mouth on something. Just to blow it, or blow into it.

To hell with dot mandates and all the other mandates I think that order was worded backwards in the beginning because it makes no sense
It totally makes sense.
The idea of fog lights is to cast as much light on the road in front of you, so that the light scattered off fog droplets does not hamper your vision as much.
Using high beams in fog has the only purpose - to make others see you from afar, but it is badly detrimental to your own driving.

By the way, for the same reason fog lights need to be yellow or amber, and for the same reason high-brightness-temperature headlights are dumb.

Like I said above when I had my Jeep I did the mod I described above to run the fog lights with high beams. Not so I could run my H-B's in the fog but so I could run my fog lights all the time. I put the SYLVANIA SilverStars in them, which was a big improvement over originals. So the fogs on the Jeep threw a lot wider beam than the headlights did. For a lot of you I know that would be no big deal, but here, where deer encounters are all too frequent, having the side of the road lit up has its advantages.

I could see doing that for dark trails. I could see why you would want to modify the circuit so you could run driving lights from the fog lamp connectors. But I have no idea why a person would want to run both high beams and fog lights at the same time.
Unless you wanted to show a cop your awesome balancing skills. How you can recite the alphabet backwards. And don’t forget your going to have to blow for him if he don’t like your skill set.

From the last post.

And, I don't bright people. And in the rare chance I do, and the rarer chance it's a cop, I don't drink and drive.

The deer down south by you are little, like dogs. How much damage could they do? I don’t drink and drive either, but I’ve had to prove it.

I was just this evening driving a winding mountain 2 lane highway and some jerk coming the other direction had both high beams and fog lights on. It was much worse than the other driver not being courteous by not dimming their high beams. There were 2 cars in front of me. The lead car almost went off the road. We have big elk here that love to hang out on the side of the road. Occasionally, they wander on the the road. Unlike the deer who scramble quickly out of the way, the elk just smugly look at you like they are saying, “What do you want?” I will say this, unless you are speeding in a school zone, you are not getting a ticket. Worst I ever had happen is the sheriff flashing his high beams at me, essentially telling me to slow down. People drive like idiots here, getting passed on a blind curve here is situation normal.
