The dude has a ScanGauge but can only afford dryer pipe? Should've at least been able to afford PVC

For what it's worth, I have a scangauge and my IAT is consistently 6 degrees above ambient going down the road. And I haven't added any dryer pipe.

I taught for 5 five at an automotive technical school, and i have seen every possible rig there is, yours is not an new idea, and as my ex-students would tell you, you need to add a marine fan to the end so that you can have forced induction.......:smilelol:

SIX degrees differential with the stock air box? are you certain?
curious, whats the ambient and speed youre taking this reading at?
That's what the scan gauge says. Does that make me certian? No, but that's what it says.

Reading was 3 weeks ago on a 1200 mile highway road trip though Oregon. Nothing to look at in the dark. It was 9pm-2am. 58-38 degrees F on the outside temp sensor. 42-62 on the IAT. Speed was around 60.

The difference in temp is significantly worse at idle in traffic or out wheeling slow.

Reducing IAT is a good thing but this is just too "Mickey Mouse" infact Mickey would love to crawl in that "Lowes love Tunnel" and make a home in your air box.

Buying some mandrel bent 3" pipe would be better and installing a AEM bypass valve to prevent hydro lock would be added cheap insurance. More surface area into the fender would probably yeild the same results without the low pipe issues. If we draw air from the fender it is already cold air anyways, so Im suprized the huge heat difference must be a mistake.

I say kudos to you, on being creative and trying something new. I can see the hazards, I am sure you are aware of them, as well. especially after reading some of the replies. but hey, if I had not seen a post a few years ago on a diy cdl or the ease of fixing a headliner, I would have spent my $$$ on an ashcroft I have never regretted my $8.00 cdl knob, or my painted headliner. so, while I am sure that this is not a mod. for me, never the less, thanks for letting me view your efforts.

:banghead:
You know he found this thread searching for a CAI for his Disco. :p
:banghead::banghead: pointless douche bag comments.
I recently registered to the forum to view some pics. I have been led here via Google, a few times over the years to the helpful yet limited tech section. you don't have to do a search for a CAI, because douche bag comments bump this thread up to the front of the line every 2 minutes. While I do have my reservations about people on other forums. if I decide not to call and chitchat about high mileage maintenance, I don't have to read through five pages of drivel. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the comic relief and a goodhearted fun. But day in day out pointless, juvenile criticism and "yo Mama" comments are so vast and prevalent I can't find anything useful on the board. so basically I view this forum as comic relief. I might get lucky and find something useful on here one day, but until then I'll just read your drunken nazi rants and retorts of most of you kids, that Obviously got bullied as children and laugh. and don't expect any useful input from me, outside of the good job looks nice comments. I'd set my truck ablaze and watch it burn to the ground before I'd pull some of you ass knuckles out of a hole
If some moderator or administrator or what ever wants to ban me, cool. because I'm pretty embarrassed about the 5 min. I just wasted with this comment.

Cheers, stay classy....... doucheweb

You mean douche bag comments like this that breathe new life into a 3 year old douchebag mod?

sure, this is not my 1st,2nd,3rd or 4th choice of vehicle day to day, but when i head off road it is. comfy and capable. when it inevitably shits the bed this is $8 I don't have to worry with removing, as i remove the other bits and make a dirt cheap purchase of another disco. slap on the bits and keep rolling. makes sense to me.. but to each.........

i'd like to make a retraction of my disparaging remarks, referencing pointless drivel. I find myself engaged in such meaningless banter, and I kind of feel like I am co starring in a Latin daytime soap.. gotta be honest.. it's kind of fun.
