I have a 4.0 out of a d2 that had about 85 k on it. This motor had seeping hg's so i pulled it apart. Also found to have mildly worn cam/lifters and a pretty gunked up top end. However the engine ran great without overheating or making any noises for the 1k i put on it. I had intended on...
i have a known good 4.0 out of a d2. I am taking it to the machine shop to have it checked for cracks and warping. I will have the crank checked and polished as well.
If all checks out, what is a fair price for a block with heads and crank only these days?
This would have to be some pretty loud pinging.
Kyle. The only things reused were the ancillaries: power steering, ac, alt, pulleys...the bolt ons. all new internal parts (not that it matters because its a completely diff engine) new mounts. same oil and trans lines, same trans and torque...

last motor was loosing water and had questionable knock under load. I rebuilt another block that was tested good and had no signs of slipping liners or anything. new block has all new parts inside it and were put together right.
new motor fired up and has same knock as old motor...

has a fresh rebuilt engine i dropped in due to some oil pressure issues and leaking hg's. i had a knock i was chasing before that i thought was due to the oil pressure. however, same noise there.
under load and worse when cold start: i would describe it as a loud rapping or...

pulled engine and rebuilt it. had recently placed motor mounts on old engine so i reused them. they are basically brand new and are the right mounts. i have looked and looked at it and they re installed correctly. however, engine is all bolted up and the front end is tilting upwards...

forgive me, this is my first encounter with a bottom end. i had the crank checked at the machine shop and it was within factory spec so it was only polished. i ordered new factory spec mains and connecting rod bearings. i put the bottom end together thinking that there was no need...
forgive my ignorance...
d2 4.0
how do you set timing when you are reassembling a completely disassembled engine? I know cyl 1 at tdc but how do you line up the cam exactly?
i just had a block (d2 4.0) pressure checked. The block cleared ok. My question is, shouldnt the block be heated while testing? The machinist said that they didnt do that and he didnt know anyone who did. He said he tested at 3x the pressure and tested it 3 times to make sure. Does this sound legit?
