    Loose Steering 2004 DII

Yeah, manual racks basically don't exist anymore in the bulk of the US. At least not in retail shops. It would be a waste of space and a huge insurance liability. Every viable shop is in a upgrade cycle to be able to handle the various ADAS systems out there that require reprogramming with...

    Wisdom for differential install

Break in rituals are like religion to a lot of people. To the point that many manufacturers were putting in new car break-in information in the owners manuals long past the time when it was completely and totally irrelevant, as nearly all of it is today. If break in was a thing brand new fleet...

    Loose Steering 2004 DII

What kind of shops do you have where they aren't using a rack that tells them exactly what stock alignment numbers should be based on the exact make/model/year/trim level of the vehicle? I haven't seen anything made in a very long time that doesn't do this and I've never seen one that had...

    Headliner talk

Try PVA glue (wood glue) and water 50/50 mix. Brush it on liberally - on each side. Let it soak in and dry. Make sure the headliner is on a table/supported well because it's going to stiffen it right on up and stay in that shape. And obviously you need to clean it very well before this...

    D1 compression test numbers

You could have a lot worse numbers than that and have absolutely no idle issues. This is my 230k mile bottom end with heads I put on almost a decade ago that have about 50k on them as I was "resurrecting" it from having sat behind my barn for 5+ years and it idles perfect. It absolutely did...

    D1 fuel economy

Not surprising, but fascinating all the same. And makes perfect sense.

    D1 fuel economy

Maybe we should all send your our sensors to swap in and out to test :)

    D1 fuel economy

Yikes, this is the kind of thing I'm talking about. The sensor gets used for several things that are a lot more important than moving the dumb gauge. It shouldn't have a "curve" it should report exact temperatures. Who knows at this point: you could be the one in this thread with an actually...

    D1 fuel economy

"Past the middle" is well beyond 215 on my gauge and temp sensor. If your OBD2 readings are that far off of what an IR thermometer is reporting I'd be suspicious of your sensor. edit: I thought I read 15 off, not 5. 5 I believe, and is because you're measuring the outside of an aluminum neck...

    D1 fuel economy

You're correct about the temp gauge. If it moves off of it's "normal" warmed up position you've well and good overheated. It's not even a good "dummy gauge"/"idiot light". You pretty much NEED to have something reading OBD2 temps.

Code scanner for SRS reset recommendation 1996 Discovery 1

One data point - My 98. No ABS or SRS codes in the vehicle. Completely up to date AL619. I can get into the ECU/PCM to read live data and codes with this scanner: It has the listing for 1998-2004 Disco in both ABS and SRS but this is as far as it gets.

    A Frame Rear Ball Joint

Pictures working now, and thank you very much for the description. I figured I was going to be cutting most of this out with a grinder or the oxy torch.

95 Disco resetting reading SRS(airbag codes)

I have a very old 619 that indeed still gets free updates and it will absolutely reset SRS codes on my 98. It's one of those "best purchase for the money things" you only realize many years later when you realize how much you've used it and how you haven't spent any more money on it. Update...

    A Frame Rear Ball Joint

Doesn't look like your pictures worked. I'm particularly interested as I'll be doing this on my D1 as part of the full suspension bushing refresh. I've been "saving" the rear until I'm ready to replace the floor in the back because I figure it will just be easier to do when I cut all that...

95 Disco resetting reading SRS(airbag codes)

It absolutely may not be the thing, but it's absolutely a thing and an easy one to eliminate so you aren't chasing your tail. The newer a vehicle you're working on the worse that all gets. I'm at the point where I have a charger hooked up on everything while I'm working on it if I'm gonna be...
