Hi removing the center peg can be a 'pain' the stock 8mm thread is just not strong enough to pull the pin out, yes i am aware that for some lucky people the pin 'falls' out but in my experience most are just solid in there. So...... we drill and tap, (using the 8mm hole as a pilot), the...
Hi Just saw this thread, when I split a Detroit I use two pieces of 5/16 stud (allthread to some people). Remove two bolts at 180deg fit the studs and nuts then remove the other 4 bolts, be extra careful to release the center section before removing the retaining studs (it has a habit of jaming...
Hi have you adjusted your park brake recently? if its too tight (drum backplate adjuster) the shoea will grab in reverse, double trailing shoe when going forward becomes double leading shoe when reversing, any oil / dirt on the shoes will cause severe jerk/jerk in reverse. Ian Ashcroft
Hi Ben not sure what you want to achieve but the answer is both ways, in D123 it flows from the side back into the bottom, in lock up (TCLock up) the flow reverses to engage the clutch in the TC. Hope this helps Ian Ashcroft:)
Hi IMO you will need to fit freewheel hubs to gain from rear drive only, if you just remove the prop the front wheels are still driving the diff which is less efficient when driven by the crown wheel as opposed to the pinion. You could end up with less MPG not more!!. Ian Ashcroft :(
Hi there is a one way sprag clutch 'flipped' not uncommon, it is a strip and rebuild to replace the sprag clutch. See here for more info, (towards the bottom of the page).

Hi I totally agree with all the comments regarding general wear and tear, particularly the quill shaft spline, was just trying to point out another problem that is quite common, the test is if 2nd gear shift becomes hard as well as the reverse clunk it could be the broken spring senario...
Hi another common problem is the accumulator spring in the 2nd/rev accumulator breaks, the result of this is there is no damping action when 2nd or rev is applied. Not saying this is the issue with your car as you do not mention a harsh 2nd gear shift but when all other avenues have been...
Hi the 'P' clip is just a generic term for a small pipe/tube support in the form of a 'P'. Available in the UK from pneumatic/plumbing/electrical outlets.
I forgot the weather out there, I am semi retired in Spain, hence the split posting from Dave and myself, weather here is good!! 20deg C...
Hi Lets try the simple fix first to check if the problem is associated with cable (linkage) or in the box.
Have a good root arround to see if anything has come loose on/in the shifter assembly resulting in loss of movement of the shifter cable.
A common fault particularly on V8 is caused by...
Hi the kickdown on the ZF occurs in two ways, part throttle kickdown is when the gov overcomes the throttle setting pressure, full or forced kickdown occurs when the cable is fully extended, if you pull the cable it will travel quite freely untill you reach the forced kickdown, this is a step on...
Hi two possible causes
The 'forced kick down plunger' is stuck in its full stroke position, usually caused by pulling the kick down (control) cable past (beyond) its full stroke. As a matter of interest how do you figure the kick down is disconnected?. Do not run with the cable dis-connected as...
