Thanks but I don't think that is the case. I know the rocker sound, been through that before, this is much more metallic banging, and as I say sporadic.

I have the exact same idle problem - checked the connectors on the TPS and they all look fine. I am not a technician but how does one trace these faults? Can I run a wire to the ECU from the TPS or the Coolant Sensor or IACV? On Page 26 of the Electrical Troubleshooting Rave it says: X126...

How do you identify a slipped liner? My wife's 98 4.0 gets a metallic knocking noise coming somewhere unspecific within the engine from time to time, you can only really hear it when parked next to a bus or wall with your window open. It comes and goes. Is this a slipped liner?

Bought one off ebay for my P38. Worked great for a year until I started getting a slew of codes again. After battling it for 6 months bought a new one from British Pacific and so far so good. I'll let you know if it lasts longer than the 'cheapie' from Ebay.
