That was the question posed by my sister in law right before it happened...
"Only one way to find out!"
Oops:
Did this last week. We were SUPER lucky that there was a guy just a few minutes behind us that came along with a good winch to get us out of there. Even with the winch it took us a...
Ok Frick, I owe you an apology and a thank you. The belt routing was indeed wrong. I assumed it was right since I had driven the vehicle over 3,000 mi like this without a problem (I bought it this way). After you asked again I printed out the correct routing off the RAVE CD and it definitely...
belt routing is correct. I've noticed over the last week or two the cranking seems slower than usual, and now it's so slow it wont start/solenoid is tapping. Is AutoZone's battery checker worth trusting? I'm not sure if the battery just wont hold a charge anymore or if the alternator is at fault.
I should have specified, the squeeling is intermittent... so I wouldnt think bearings.. but I will check it anyway. I'm going to go buy a new battery anyway.. but I know a bad alternator can ruin a new battery too.
...and now a dead battery... The belt looks ok, and the tension is not really adjustable (and feels fine). Can a bad battery cause a high draw on the alternator causing the belt to slip?

Thanks.... I guess mine COULD be the ECU not keeping the pump on.. but once the pump draws vacuum it should at least hold there. Doesnt seem to be able to draw vacuum. Either the pump isn't strong enough or there's a leak somewhere (in the pump its self). I guess the ECU could also be telling...
Ok... so I've verified that I do not have any vacuum leaks, and the pump does run when I try to set the cruise. The cruise does not set though... and I believe it is because the solenoid on the pump isn't closing... either that or my vacuum hose to pump connection is leaking (I had to put hose...
Sorry I know this topic has been beaten to death. I just replaced my vacuum lines.
When does the solenoid open and close on the vacuum pump? When I check the vacuum by squeezing the throttle bladder, it's still leaking although not as quickly. I'm assuming the valve on the pump is open...
Haven't attempted any water crossings yet in my stock d1... how watertight is the cabin?? I see all these pictures of people crossing deep water, are you totally flooding your interiors? What about a 24" crossing that just comes up to the doors?
