Slight grinding noise from the front under load (accelerating or decelerating). Nothing leaking and the diff is not hot to touch after driving. Started two days ago and is progressively getting worse. Is there a sure way to confirm it is indeed the diff before I call Will or Marty?
No doubt I could find the details by searching but it's nice to see the board more active lately and I wanted to join in. The D1 in question is advertised as needing a transfer case. T-case from an automatic should be easy enough to find. I suspect there are some differences for the 5 speed. Is...
Not that it matters at all to me, but would certainly be another reason for Obama not wanting to release the photos.

Note this part of Sen Inhofe's description:

Picked up another p38 project yesterday. 2000 HSE.
Front diff is clearly busted, pinion shaft wobbles around, bearings and seals all popped loose.
My concern is about cause and effect. Is something else out of order?
The prop shaft looks fine with u-joints tight but unrestricted. I would expect...

New plugs, wires and air filter. Sometimes hard to start problem resolved with crank position sensor (Thanks Will).
No leak down in fuel rail pressure after an hour.
Coolant temp sensor reads 300 ohms warm. I did get an O2 sensor code once after cleaning plugs and replacing cps...
I rarely get to ask a question as the search feature generally produces clear and complete answers. I'm stuck on the P1316
97 P38 4.0 128xxx miles. New plugs and wires got rid of the assorted P030*
codes. P1316 showed up again so I swapped out temp sensor and pressure regulator with known good...
Replaced a bad 96 4.0 with a good 99 4.6. Engine fired right up after the install and sounds fine (after seating a loose plug wire).
Scanner shows codes, looks like three different categories. Codes with my comments and questions:
P0300,0301,0303 - probably from the loose plug wire...
In the middle of an engine swap, replacement on the hoist with torque converter still attached, not thinking ahead... I removed three bolts. Slack on the fourth and the torque converter flipped down off the flywheel.
I clamped it back in place and removed the final bolt.
The flex plate is bent...
96 D1 160K miles. Drive a bit, park to go in some place, return to see PS fluid on the ground, reservoir empty.
My daughter's truck, so I'm never there exactly when it happens. She brought it by and I have her turn the wheels lock to lock while I check for leaks. Nothing significant leaking at...
Youngest daughter bought a 96 disco minus the transfer case. Thought it was a good deal and expected I could fix it.
Engine sounds strong, so I thought it was worth the effort. T-case installed, but now the transmission will only engage reverse. No forward gears at all. Fluid was 4 quarts low...
