new to board - thinking about a Discovery

My 99 D2 was just purchased for a fun project/camping machine a few months back. Spent it's whole life in the Southwest, so no rust and it's solid as a rock. That being said, you're right about the mechanical and electrical components. No history on maintenance, and because I had to replace...

    DII Squeaking with Serviceable Driveshaft

    DII Squeaking with Serviceable Driveshaft

The new shaft came in from Lucky8 so I started replacing it and had a fun time cutting 2 nuts off the double cardan side of the front shaft with my dremel last night. The guy that installed the last shaft beat the crap out of the nuts putting them on and we're stripped:banghead:. Ran out of...

    chasing a tick...

Did you get the engine reassembled and find out if your work did the trick? I have an identical noise in my 99 DII and I'm getting anxious to take care of it.

    DII Squeaking with Serviceable Driveshaft

You're supposed to grease each location until you see it oozing from all the joints right?

    DII Squeaking with Serviceable Driveshaft

Well I've got her parked and a new shaft in the mail from Lucky8. I'll try my hand at rebuilding this one for a spare when I feel like spending a day cursing at inanimate objects.

    DII Squeaking with Serviceable Driveshaft

So once the dreaded squeak starts, is the shaft toast? Or do you think I could throw some grease (mobile1 synthetic) in the center ball kit and it will be Ok? I've only out a few miles on it with a squeak present.

    DII Squeaking with Serviceable Driveshaft

I recently purchased my first Land Rover (99 DII with 113k miles) and immediately set to work on it. I just finished installing a Terrafirma 2" lift and decided to replace the front driveshaft because I started hearing a pulsating squeak while accelerating. So looking underneath at the DS...

2 inch lift- any complications to expect?

So I installed the 2" Terrafirma lift this weekend (purchased through Lucky8) and everything went pretty smooth. All in all, pretty uneventful and easy project. Brake cables all have sufficient length even with full articulation. It took me a little over 4 hours and hardly any bruised...

2 inch lift- any complications to expect?

I hope to be doing more than driving around town :D. We just relocated to El Paso, TX and have some fun looking mountains close by in Cloudcroft and Ruidoso, NM. That being said, the plan is to get dirty but I'm trying to keep the mods simple until I start hitting the limitations of the rig...

2 inch lift- any complications to expect?

So I'm just getting into the Land Rover game with the purchase of a 99 DII. First thing I'm doing is a 2" lift and tires. Is the 99 subject to the thinner frame as well and should I think about replacing the shock towers with something aftermarket while installing the lift?
