    Oil Coming from Exhaust

I'll go do some field work - standby my friend.

    Oil Coming from Exhaust

You know, it certainly could be - possible oversight on my end. But I gave you the short note of the cat theft story... here's the detail: The morning my cats were stolen I went outside (7 am, cats still attached). I started the car and it was bogging out - THATS when I checked the plugs (as I...

    Oil Coming from Exhaust

Check the oil often on my trip, didnt lose anything; no smoke either. This must have been an issue that started once I got to Colorado. I checked the plugs - fouled black. These plugs were brand new, put them in right before I left.

    Oil Coming from Exhaust

Quite the series of unfortunate events. Last post I made, we fixed an air/fuel mixture issue and celebrated the completion of my engine install. After that, I drove that 99 D2 from Connecticut to my next duty station in Colorado. She made it 2000 miles... then some dirtbag cut off my catalytic...

Running rich - MAF Issues? Strange test results.

Found the solution. I don't believe that this was one of those common Land Rover problems that we all know and love. After going through a series of diagnosis, cleanings and replacements (including but not limited to what all of you have noted), I bought and installed a different 04 D2 ECU -...

Running rich - MAF Issues? Strange test results.

Sounds like a war. Hey at least when it comes back together, assuming it was the cam, everything should be pretty tight!... we hope. This issue is coming off an engine rebuild; I didn't notice any issues with my cam when I was in there. I'll go over it again, check for vacuum leaks and test the...

Running rich - MAF Issues? Strange test results.

Alright, here's the report: kris812 - I read the O2s on my scan tool, the upstream driver was definitely out. I replaced it and they are reading normally. There was an improvement and, although the idle isn't quite right, it doesn't sound like its about to stall. I'm left with a MAFS fault code...

Running rich - MAF Issues? Strange test results.

Id assume that kicks in at normal operating temperature?

Running rich - MAF Issues? Strange test results.

I have codes for bad downstream sensors (which I knew, but haven't repaired yet because I didn't believe they would impact mixture/drivability) and a bad upstream bank 1. Its running very rough for the issue just to be a poor o2 sensor, at this point its barely idling. Id be surprised, but I am...

Running rich - MAF Issues? Strange test results.

I think that's a reasonable assumption. Yes, I do have a flashing odometer. I switched around the key cylinder and instrument cluster to match, but it still flashes. I haven't had a chance to work on the truck over the weekend, but when I get back there I'll play around with swapping the BCU...

Running rich - MAF Issues? Strange test results.

Another odd situation with that. I swapped both the ECU and BCU together and the car would not turn over at all - it likely had some sort of security wall. For the heck of it I tried the 99 D2 ECU with the 03 D2 BCU... It started and has been running since. I thought that was strange.

Running rich - MAF Issues? Strange test results.

Thanks for the reply, Kris. Luckily my code reader maps engine functions - I'll check the MAFS and O2 responses and report back. Here's an interesting side bar on the ECU thing. The old engine had secondary air injection, the 99 (the one I put in) does not. I swapped the ECUs as well, so the...

Running rich - MAF Issues? Strange test results.

Hey all, Just dropped a 99 D2 4.0 BOSCH into an 03 D2 I bought with slipped sleeves (figures). The install went well and she's running solid (God bless); now I'm wrapping up rather specific punch list items. At the moment she's running quite rich - it smells rich and the plugs are fouled black...

3 Amigos - Help me Hunt!

Update - thanks for your help everybody. Like most, here I am posting what happened months later. Cleaning the grounds fixed most of the faults, a new shuttle valve fixed another one. Only two of the wheel sensors were actually bad. Someone said it perfectly on here... one thing at a time. I...

3 Amigos - Help me Hunt!

Odd - I was using a Carsoft LR reader. It turned out the grounds were fouls, so the code was correct. Odd that the reader contradicts the RAVE.

3 Amigos - Help me Hunt!

I see they’re pretty inexpensive, I worry about quality at $30.00 only because the other times I’ve gone cheap on rover parts it’s come back to bite. Have you used a $30 one from ebay/does everything work alright?

3 Amigos - Help me Hunt!

Alright boys, I cleaned my ground up and found partial success. You’re right @discostew, those grounds were an absolute mess. Those 12 codes turned to 3. exactly what you had @mlnnc shuttle valve, right rear sensor and left front sensor. Can you expand on issues between the electrical connectors...

3 Amigos - Help me Hunt!

I agree about the sensors - it seems a bit radical to have all go out. I'll start with that ground, then search around for some shuttle valve solutions. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for the reply.

3 Amigos - Help me Hunt!

This could be fun... I've had three amigos ever since I got my 99 D2 in 2017 (younger, broker, clueless). I've restored just about the whole truck at this point, now I just have to battle 3 Amigos. I started with the Option B bypass (ground one side of shuttle valve and splice other into the...
