500 miles then re-torque. At this mileage the cam is probably worn....and the timing chain for CERTAIN will have stretched. Both can be changed in situ of course....if it were me I WOULD spend the time given that these parts do not cost a fortune and you are already this far into the motor. I...
Studs...period. Yes you should re-torque....worth it! Bolts streeeeeeeetched into an aluminium threaded block to generate a seal were never a good idea....just a cheap and nasty way of 'attempting' to one hit torque a cylinder head onto a block......plain bad engineering and guess who pays for...
only need to see those bearings to know they are done... once you see copper, they need to be replaced. Bit concerned at the uneven wear too.
From your other posts I am assuming engine is still in the car. If it were me, I would pull a main bearing cap and examine a lower bearing also....if you...
My 04 has been great...had it for almost 10 years now...14K-86K.
ONE breakdown...the crank pos sensor...easy repair. The transfer box weeps...but they all do sir! Top up every oil change while greasing the propshafts.
BUT...and here is the rub...they are only as good as the care and (over)...
K Seal in the first instance simply because you have nothing to loose....yes it may silt up the radiator...maybe....but I've never had a problem with it. Long term....well....reading this board you probably know the drill....liners, gaskets and those goddamn stoopid bloody stretch bolts they...
lower power, more fuel consumption, no chance of passing inspection.....why on earth would you do this in a working efi vehicle? It's an ok setup for an MGB conversion...but not for a Disco....:banghead:
BUT....Disco 1 bodyshell DOES rust out way more than the Disco 2 particularly the inside panels, rear door valances and around the trunk floor....at least with the chassis on a D2 you can see the damage and assess whether to buy or not....The Disco 2 is just as DIY friendly as the Disco 1 but is...
x2......sadly you have to avoid a rust belt car....they thinned the chassis to save weight on the 03s and 04s and despite over maintaining my 04 I STILL am fighting the rust worm on this car.....shame...it's really a fantastic Truck in soi many other ways....typically British....like me!
:)
85000 on my 04....but I maintain it religiously...just did all the hoses and a new thermostat (180 degree). As long as you keep them cool they usually are fine. A cool thermostat and change out the coolant regularly...and yes...I would never buy one with 'fresh head gaskets'....definitely code...
Grease the crap out of it every 3000 miles and/or at each oil change....it's a hot location and the grease get's used up pretty quick frankly....if you off road or have a lot of wet weather I would shorten the interval between greasing....AND make sure you have a real grease gun....one with a...
...and there you go.....TWO head bolts had "relaxed" already and I would argue you just caught this engine before it was going to blow a head gasket as a result.:banghead::banghead:
Don't take my opinion....but many in the classic car world don't like TTY for head bolts...yes...easay to cok up studs...but it's just as easy to under/over torque TTY....do you assemble them with a film of oil...or dry?
