UPDATE - SOLD
Brand new 04 CDL kit that was purchased from Lucky8 and never installed on my 03 Disco. I sold my DII a couple weeks ago so its time for this to go as well.
$325 shipped by UPS ground (anywhere in continental US).
Shipment to anywhere else will have to be...
Thanks for the quick write-up / debrief! I also took a quick look at the DII workshop manual and this was spot on. I swapped out my dead rear cargo door actuator on my 03 DII just now in about 45 minutes and spent a few minutes of those cleaning up the parts before reinstalling.
All doors lock...
03 with 93k miles. Valley pan at 75k and front cover/oil pump at 85k as preventive maintenance.
04 tcase, QT motor mounts and TW front ds are the best mods so far
Thinking outside the box are you sure the battery posts and ground is all good and clean? Dirty posts and contacts once gave me a no start condition on a month old brand new battery.
The cluster would light up but no crank. Cleaned the terminals and fired right up.
I just did a full brake job on a 2007 V8 LR3 with 79k miles. Complete job-rotors, pads and sensors all around. Costs alone for factory parts was pushing $600 and from what I can tell thats what the dealer charges just for a pad change.
Being an owner of an 03 DII I would not look forward to...
Worn hub(s) and possibly worn rear u-joint on rear ds will give the symptoms you describe. Since your rear joint has been replaced I'd check for thrown grease on the back side of each of the disc brakes for evidence of a hub that has gone south.
I have an extra DI CDL shifter for sale. Average condition (I actually bought it from one of the forum members here) and priced for a quick sale - $50 shipped. Shifter, boot and knob included.
The same month that I swapped in my 04 tcase from Will T I stumbled on an '04 being parted in Ft...
I have had good luck with going with used hubs from Roverland Parts. On my 03 DII I have replaced three already at 85k miles.
You can reuse your ABS sensor so that is a simple swap over if you want to go that route. In over 45k miles of ownership, I have only had the three amigos once and it...
I run a Thule hitch mounted one and its great. Not cheap but if you will use it alot its well worth it. Very solidly built and by having it out back of the Disco it keeps the bikes safe from road debris and they mount solidly via the front wheel pulldown clamps.

IIRC there is a retaining slot/tab for the ashtray. When I first got my 03 a friend just happened to kick it in one weekend while trying to grab stuff out of the back of the truck on a road trip.
I ended up picking up a used lower panel from Will real cheap. I had to remove the console to...
I bought my '03 DII back in 2005 with almost 40k on it and had nothing but dealer service; the usual stuff like long oil service intervals and all that... anyway, very clean truck that drove and ran great so I picked it up. Oil cap had some sludge showing and after the first couple thousand...
Oops. You got a DI so you have the solid linkage D1 shifter mechanism. I thought you had a DII which has the cable operated shifter.
Sounds like you got it under control though by getting the lower rod reconnected....
Get underneath the truck and check if the cable fixture retaining c clip popped loose or broke... if that is not attached properly the cable does not hold solid to engage the shift mechanism properly.... it might be an easy fix.
