Painting the headliner: getting a smooth finish

Hmm I didn't think about the surface filler cracking when it flexes.. That wouldn't be such a good look. I may just get it recovered and be done with it.

Painting the headliner: getting a smooth finish

The sky is falling. I want to paint my headliner, and I'm looking to get a nice smooth factory-ish finish with a matt paint in light grey to match the interior. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I plan on spending a bit of time getting it right. I haven't done anything like this before so need...

    14CUX Help.

So it turns out the intake tube on the airbox had come loose, and the opening was resting against the coil - partially blocking it. Pushed the tube back into place and took it for a run, all back to normal now!

    14CUX Help.

It's running well otherwise. Starts right up, doesn't stall, does what it should. Idle could be smoother I guess. Vacuum advance unit was replaced a few months ago so that's good. Spark plugs are quite old so a new set wont hurt.

    14CUX Help.

1998 D1 with 14CUX, distributor and all that. I know most people here are in the US with the GEMS in the D1 - but I'm in New Zealand! I was out on the highway on the weekend, and when overtaking or climbing a steep hill at full throttle the car starts to miss randomly at about 4500 rpm and...

    Amateur brake bleeding question...

It's back, minus a bit of air in the brake lines. The car sure stops quick now! Changing and bleeding brake fluid has to be one of the best quick-fixes to improve the feel of a car. I even got another car wash (since yesterday) and a cup of coffee, plus a ride to and from work. Maybe dealers...

    Amateur brake bleeding question...

So I took the easy route and took it back.. Our Land Rover dealer is also a Mercedes and Jeep dealer, that new E-class coupe is very sexy!

    Amateur brake bleeding question...

So there's a new dealer in town, and I got half off a brake fluid flush. The disco came back washed, vacuumed, I had a nice coffee, and now I have spongy brakes. I know the easiest thing to do would be to take it back and get it re-bled, but I'm a little intimidated by all the new Range Rovers...

    Those "oh s**t" moments...

So the door switch on my front passengers side has never worked, so I went to see if I could clean it out and get it functional again. Unscrewed the switch, pulled it out and the wire snapped off the terminal and disappeared deep into the dark space. If the free end starts grounding randomly...

    Window Lift ECU

Man, that little cover is tough. I had all 3 tabs on the open side released, and it still took a mighty pull with some pliers to rip it off. FYI. On right hand drive models there's no need to unbolt the enclosure at all, once the cover is off the ECU slides right out. I'm attempting to...

    Window Lift ECU

15 minute job. Hardest part is removing the plugs. Yeah right! I got the plugs off no trouble, then got to the part about prising off the plate and sliding out the ECU. My plate seems to be firmly attached by some invisible force. I can lever out one side of it, but there's no way that's...

    If I can't find a 7mm socket...

Spring things are done. Just can't get the f'ing plastic plate off the ecu enclosure. Pulled as hard as I could, pliers slipped, cut knuckles on something... Then gave up. There seems to be an invisible force holding it on.

    If I can't find a 7mm socket...

PT - You sure are right about that. Glove box removed and window lift ecu exposed. The instructions I read said "prise off the plastic plate and the ecu slides out of the enclosure". No amount of prising, cursing, and bleeding knuckles was getting that sonofabitch out. I take it the bolts...

    If I can't find a 7mm socket...

I think for the cost of postage from Japan to New Zealand, I could probably buy a whole set. I'm just going to have a go at undoing the spring-things tomorrow, hopefully will be able to reach and and grab the window lift ecu. Failing that I'll go bu a damn 7mm socket.

    If I can't find a 7mm socket...

Wait. Push the rollers up while pulling down on the glovebox door? Then the glove box folds all the way down? Surely can't be that simple.

    If I can't find a 7mm socket...

Can the glove box be lowered just by undoing the spring things on the sides? Just enough to get to the window lift ecu...

    D1 vs D2 for on-road handling

Seems like most SLS problems are related to leaking bags, or burned out compressors from people that ignored their leaking bags. First thing I would do would do is get the Arnott bags with a lifetime warranty and change them as preventative maintenance, then hopefully I would have a couple of...

    D1 vs D2 for on-road handling

That's the sort of info I'm after. I'm pretty much certain I want to make the change now. The obvious thing to do would be to drive one... But the nearest D2 for sale is about 4 hours drive away.

    D1 vs D2 for on-road handling

I'm considering trading my 98 D1 for a D2. I do a little light off roading and up the mountains for skiing in the winter, so the off-road ability of either model is much greater than I will ever use. I'm looking at a 2000 D2 with ACE and SLS (I love the techno-gadgets), and a warranty of...

    SRS Light on 1995 Disco

I had a 1994 disco before my 98. SRS light comes on whenever the battery has been disconnected or falls below a certain voltage. Can only be reset by the dealer. Good money making scheme for Land Rover.
