01 hse code reading

the fun is all ready starting. 2001 hse. got the check engine light on! i want to know what tool is required to obtain the codes? what you guys are using? how to reset? or any links to other web sites that may contain the information needed.
rovacom just maybe the next purchase! ;)

o.k. luck hopfuly on our side! found vacume leak, tightened clamp and restart engine. light has extinguished!

Just so you know, there are several ways to read the codes on an OBDII compliant Vehicle, it is just more preferance then anything.

Some just get cheap OBDII scanner from any auto parts store about $150

If you have a Laptop or PDA handy, then you options expand alot.

There are a lot more, but these are just the ones that sparked an interest for me. I personnally use the First link. It works ver nice, no issues other than it doesn't read the transmission codes on my '97 Disco very well, but the newer versions of OBDII do a lot better job of reporting this info...

thanks for the links! i found a few by searching google. i was lucky to find the vacum leak at the steeper motor hoses, previous mechanic must have forgot to crimp it tight. anyway diagnostics reset its self once i recrimped her! thanks again!
