Good Morning, All.

Just picked up a 2011 LR4 with 139,000 miles on it. It's had the timing chain and guides done, newer air compressor, head gaskets, new pads and rotors, and a recent oil change. We picked it up in Virginia and drove the 675 miles back to St. Louis, MO with no issues. Night and day difference between it and my '04 Discovery. I love a V8 that actually has enough power to move itself around. Not knocking my D2. I still love that SUV, but dang, is the LR4 nice.

When we got home I noticed a whine/hum coming from the engine bay. It's volume and intensity follows engine rpms. The little bit of research I've been able to do points to the alternator as possibly being the culprit. Where else should I look and/or diagnose?

Thanks,

whining/humming turned out to be the belt tensioner. replaced that and all sounds good again.
the coolant smell and leak turned out to be the waterpump slightly weeping and, i think, one old pipe fitting.
