Rick,

I have alway wanted to do the event too. I've been to Moab a couple of times and
have ridden slickrock. I believe that's trail they use for the race. Very difficult,
not for the beginner! I can't imagine trying to ride it at night, that's what makes
it so much fun. I done a couple of 12 hour races and had a blast. I have a few buddies here in the Chicago area that might be willing to go. I'll check it out and I'll try to come
up with a plan.

Granny gear puts on some great events. I have done the 24 hours of Cannan WV, and 24 hours of snowshoe WV, we raced a 4 man team, very tight organazation, Toyota has sponsored them as well as Time Life magazine, we have wanted to do Moab for some time now but the East coast keeps me busy, I really enjoy the 24 hrs of Adrenalin series we try to make all the East Coast venues, we will be at conyers GA this weekend, very fun fast course we will be racing under the name Fat Bandeleros, 4 man team. But Moab would be alot of fun to ride, the night laps would rock.

I did the 24hrs of Moab a couple of years ago, it was a blast. Entered the 5 person team open class, I did 3 laps (15 miles each)during the race, plus 1 lap the day before to get familiar with the course. The guy that won the solo class turned more laps than our team (16) thats almost 250 miles in 24hrs! You don't need to worry about how you place to have a good time it's an all night party. Just take some naps between your turns, work on the bikes, eat, drink :) stay up and have fun. I do recommend a good set of lights which we all had, and go out on a few rides before the race to get used to riding at night. We all talk about getting another team together but scheduling has been hard, I know we'll do it again.
The coarse is not on the Slickrock trail, the coarse is on BLM land south and west of town, Back of Behind I have heard it refered to in trail guides. I starts on a dirt road switchs to desert single track, thru some sand, over some slickrock, more singletrack, and you finish the loop on dirt road. Make a week of it and spend pleanty of time in your Land Rover. Moab is Mecca :D . I only live approx 4hrs away in SLC, and I'm able to get down a couple times a year, it's worth making the trip if you can.
