I have a DI, and it refuses to start. It turns over, but won't fire. sometimes it will almost start, but dies out. The spark plugs have spark, fuel filter was changed not to long ago, I checked the fuel pressure on the fuel rail and it read 31 psi, I can hear the buzzing noise from the fuel pump. I am beginning to think that it might be an alternator problem because, I have noticed the turn signals having a rapid blink. I also replaced a supposedly dead battery, but after a few days with the new battery, the truck would click, and after about a 5 second delay it would slowly turn over and start. I actually just recieved the rover yesterday as it was trucked out to Flagstaff AZ from DE. I was going to drive schultz pass today but that doesn't look possible. Any possible solutions would be very helpful. THANK-YOU

31 psi is a little low, especially after prime, should be 34-37

try a shot of starter fluid into the air intake while cranking, see if it will get it to run for a second. that will tell you if it's starving for fuel.

agree with Rob on the low fuel pressure. also, voltage on the battery should be 12+. may want to check that battery cables are cleaned up as well. no corrosion on them.

not related to your starting issue, but your fast turn signal indicates that a bulb is out on the truck somewhere.

The battery has built up a little white crust on one of the terminals, but it is a new battery! could one of the terminals be going bad? I actually ran the battery dead trying to start the Rover. I am recharging it right now. Also, how do I get the fuel pressure back up? I really appreciate your help, thank-you!!!

31 might be a bit low, but I don't think it's low enough to indicate a fuel pump problem...

Mine sits around 31-33 psi pretty regularly.

oh boy! now I have run into another problem, but I am not sure. I charged the battery, but there is still no response. I don't even hear the starter motor clicking. I think I might have burnt it out while trying to start it. I am guessing that even if the battery is charged, the engine won't even turn over if the starter motor is broken? THANK-YOU VERY MUCH!

starting prob.

I had an intermittant starting problem with some of the problems you have. Mine turned out to be the electrical connections at the back of the ignition switch had come very loose and the switch was falling apart, only took a cable tie to fix it after spending much time and money in other areas. (we all live and learn) Mines a 94 too!

no start

Check the battery voltage across teh battery terminals
1) with no load ( key not in ingnition) should be better than 12.60
2) turn ignition on, if the battery is perfect, it should drop no more than about 0.3 volts
3) try to start, if it drops below 9.6, forget it, starter relay will not pull in and starter will not spin, battery may be shot, have a battery store do a full load test in it.
If all is Ok and still does not start, repeat by checking at the starter, you may have a bad ground or +12v feed to teh starter.
Good luck
Neil

Well, I tried the battery once again and nothing. I think the battery is completely dead. It is kind of strange because the battery is brand new! When I put the battery back in after recharging for a few hours there was no activity from the battery when I hooked up the terminals. thank-you for the help!

Had the same problem once and it was really difficult to find the cause. Everything was fine, battery, fuel pressure, injectors. It turned out to be the ignition module, mounted just behind the ignition coil. Replaced it and everything worked fine.

Well, I ended up taking rover to the shop. Apparently somthing broke in the ignition switch which explains why nothing would happen when I turned the key. Hopefully the whole unit doesn't need to be replaced ($425.50). On top of that, the starter motor is beginning to go explaining the weak starts on a new battery. But wait, there's more, The CEL light is on with code 17 (TPS), and was wondering if that could have caused the rover to turn over, but not fire(mabey running too rich)? Huh, Rover Rover Rover
Thank-you for the help!
