Just picked up a '95 Disco with no key remote (one on order) and can't figure out how to get the doors to lock. Isn't the driver door suposed to contol the locks with the key rotation left or right? Mine does nothing, does this mean it's broken?

Lock issues

Gary, I have become very intimate with my '95 door locks. Is the driver lock working and not actuating the rest of the doors?

Yes...The key should lock and unlock all doors from the driver's door. Something's up. Check the fuses and relays for the alarm and automatic door lock.
Does your alarm work?

The Driver door lock does nothing when the key is inserted and turned either direction.

If I pull up or push down on the inside door lock, it does work and control the rest of the doors.

How do I check the alarm without a remote? Hopefully the remote will arrive in teh mail soon.

The linkage from the door key lock to the actuator has probably fallen off, particularly if the interior button works fine, as it connects to the actuator at a diferent point.
Pop the door panel off ( you will need a door trim tool to do it without breaking the plastic trim ) and check the linkages. The clips are easy to replace, and most auto parts stores can help you.

I have a 96, and I had all sorts of problems with the locks. If a 95 is like a 96 (i know the remote setup is different) but the door locks are probably the same, there is a small switch on the key lock. take the inside panel off of the door, and you will find it. If the door acts properly when locked from the inside, then that switch is most likely the issue. The exterior drivers door lock is the only way to turn on the alarm with out the remote. I would check the switch and the associated wires.

Well, it sounds like a 95 is different than a 96. there is only an electronic link between the actuator and key lock. sorry to mislead.

I agree with bob, sounds like the linkage in the driver door is the culprit. A 10mm removes the door handle, and pull the plastic nails around the panel. Pull the vapor barrier and practice your swearing....
