96 5 speed on the verge...

I just purchased a 96 5 speed (105K, paid 6k super clean) after months of searching... It looks as though it was well maintained, the owners manual has all the stamps to prove it.

Anyway, stoked I found the forum, and now comes the brain picking. I want to over the next year transform this stock disco into an expedition vehicle... Not a 4-wheelin' crawler, rather something I can take into the southwestern deserts and get lost wit for weeks at a time.

I'd like to go with a more D90 type of height and am thinking an OME springs and shock kit and tires to match (Expedition Exchange will be doing the work). My concern is with the transmission and the extra torque it will be dealing with the larger wheels... I'm no engineer so I'm not even sure if it would make a difference, or maybe my concern should be elsewhere...

Any comments thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated...

If you are only going to 32 in tires it is a complete non-issue as D90s had the same trans. The only concern is the "crawl" ratio deteriorates. This is fine so long as you realize that the clutch is not another gear.

People are running 35 or 37 tires with an R380. CVs and axles fail, not transmissions.
