Land Rover has a recall out for the fuel tanks of '96 D1's. It states, "On certain sport utility vehicles, a stress crack can develp in the plastic fuel tanks." Cracking that could cause a leak during refueling procedures it says. Owner notifications are scheduled to take place in Oct 2004. I checked w/the local dealership and they knew about it but had not been shipped any parts yet. They were surprised I knew about it. The Recall Campaign ID Number is 004V203000 with a date of 04/12/04. I just thought you '96 D1 owners would be interested.

I read about this one a few weeks ago on dweb, already called LRNA and they said you should call and make an appointment to bring it in for inspection at your locale dealer. I have yet to make an appointment.

I bet the LR dealer will find that my tank is not one of the "faulty" tanks but that the mechanic will have noticed that i have a leaky transfer case, a leak in my main rear seal, a failing valve seal, and that they recommend i not drive the vehicle until it is repaired.

This might be a dumb question, but does that go for people who bought theirs second hand? I don't think I would have been notified without watching this site. thx in advance, Ron

If you've had it serviced at a dealership, they should have updated the files, and you SHOULD receive notification when the recall goes public. If you haven't, call the nearest dealer & have them sign you up. The inspection/repair WILL be free.

I called LRNA a few months ago when I first heard about the recall. Since I bought my rig used and not from a LR dealer, LRNA told me to fill out a form (which they faxed to me) and I would be put into the system and notified about the recal and any future one

Hoot, that was great. I am sure I'll be in the same boat or they will tell you that since there are aftermarket shocks and springs and other parts on the truck that we aren't eligible.

I ran into a problem one time but for the most part Charlotte, NC LR has always been pretty good.
