Josh - I have the gurads on the truck but no instructions but I belive you drill into the bumper, place the guard as a template, insert the plastic sleeve retatiner in the hole [ paint any bare metal now] and then screw the gaurd on....... hope this helps, -Andy

I don't know if its similiar at all.. but on the D2.. for the uppers, I just had to unscrew the 4 screws on the light, put the rubber stoppers in [i had 4 for each light], then put the tail guard on, and use the [longer] screws they gave me to screw it back in. Could you perhaps be missing some of the rubber stoppers?

I've seen these guards and wondered if they actually help? Is it better to crack a lens or bend up your aluminum? I know lenses aren't cheap, but I don't know what really happens when you bang one of these gaurds. Anyone have a story to tell ?

Edited to add: Thanks RoverJoe

Believe it or not I backed into a tree and ripped the guard half way off. The light & aluminum were fine. Just had to pop the guard back in place and tighten. I can say that I'm glad that I had them.

Installed them on my D1 last year. If I remember correctly you should fix first the long rounded rubber side protector on the side of the truck along the seam between the rear fender and the rear of the truck. Make sure the taillight is centered between the two ends of this rubber protector. You should mark the position of the two holes for fixing this side rubber on the fender side and then drill them. Better to stick some masking tape along the seam to easily mark the holes. After drilling the holes and fixing the side rubber with the proper hardware to the fender, insert the two nut inserts supplied in the hardware into their holes on the face of the rubber side protector. They should be pushed in. You also have two rubber supports which you should insert in their respective holes on the taillight guard. Screw the light guard onto the rubber side protector and mark the position of the center hole on the other side. Unscrew it again and drill the hole in your truck and insert the required nut insert. There should be a plastic spacer between the guard and that hole with the nut insert. Tighten it in place with the provided allen key screws.

Taillights new from the dealer: $25ea

Just buy 8 extra taillights, and change them out as you need to. :D
