I have a 97 disco 4.0 V8. I’m getting only code P1177. Any ideas where I should look?

On occasion it will stumble on a hot start and stall. It will take a few goes, but eventually I can get it to run and idle fine and then it’s fine for the rest of the day. This happens at random.

When I had similar issues, I had a fuel pump on the way out.

I’ve slowly been going over this whole truck. It sat for awhile, and I’ve been trying to breathe new life into it. So I’m not 100% familiar with the workings of these, granted I’ve owned a few landys over the years.

If I just put the key in and try to start, it will crank over for 2-4 seconds and start. If I go to the position right before it starts, and wait a few seconds and try to start. It fires instantly. Fuel pump does sound plausible for my situation.

It looks like my truck has aels. Going to order a pump, hopefully they send the correct one!

With the ignition turned to accessory, you should hear the fuel pump whining at the back. Because it sat for so long, also consider the fuel filter and any vacuum hoses in the engine bay. Rubber rot.

I replaced all the PCV hoses. Just checked for vacuum leaks. Couldn’t find any. It does have a minor exhaust manifold leak.

I have the rear carpet out at the moment, and still can’t hear the pump… it’s probably weak

I just replaced my fuel pump (it had a bad fuel level sender). An inexpensive unit from Ebay was just fine. I do have extra electric motor pumps (which is what I presume to be the weak link of the cheaper units).

You might as well replace the fuel filter above the rear passenger wheel while you are at it.
