98 P38 vs 95 RRC

I know that P38s are notorious for electrical issues, mainly because of the Lucas system. But is it less reliable than a 95 RRC? Aren't the classics run by the same systems? I know that the parts are definately less expensive on a Classic than on a P38....and the Classics are easier to work on & less complex. But as far as reliability do you all think they are about equal? I am looking at upgrading from my less than perfect 90 RRC to either a 95 LWB or a 97-98 P38 (with a 4 year/unlimited miles listed component warranty). I definately love the luxury of the P38, but should I hold out a few years until I can afford a 01 P38, and get a 95 RRC which I would be just as happy in?

Any thoughts?

Also, I'd consider a 99 DII or is that a bad choice because it is the first model year?

I have a '99.5 (So Bosch, not Lucas) 4.6 from new and a '95 LWB since the summer

The P38 has been great, electrically. A few engine/porous block issued that were fixed under warranty. Now has 57,000 miles.

The LWB has had only one electrical problem, the rear windows stopped working for a short bit of time. I will attribute this to my 6 year old son's "error" in dumping a gallon of water in the back of the car, and not to "Lucas, Prince of Darkness". Works okay now after drying up. Has 115,000 miles

Comparing the two, the 4.6 has more power and is not as floaty on the road. However, neither are going to win any awards for speed or handling, but there are other vehicles for that. The 4.6 is a bit quieter in the road/engine department, and also the internal squeaking department. While the 4.6 is a better road car, if I had to pick one, it would be the LWB. I am not quite sure why, but I have a bigger smile on my face when I drive it.

I also had a '96 4.0 for a while. A bit sluggish with the engine and the heavy car. I would recommend the 4.6. I never had any electrical problems with the car, but all things being equal, I would go with a late 99 or after if you go with the P38.

Good luck. Either way you will be getting a fun vehicle.
