a new rattle

so i just go out for lunch and i have a new rattle coming from the mid section of the disco, underneath, I think its a heat shield above the exhaust, is there a heat shield there? , a quick check at idle and that is where the noise is, but unable to see anything amiss.... any thoughts are appreciated , thanks -Andy

Yes there are heat shields above the exhuast, but it could also be the CAT's they have heat shield on them that tend to rattle as well.

the sound is back from the cats... they are in the Y pipe yes?... so is back from there, I'll don the grubby clothes tonight and crawl under the truck.... thanks -A

problem found

the rattle is actually coming from within the big can, so its time for a new muffler, and I dont think my wife will let me go stainless on this car...... but you never know -Andy

why wouldn't she let you go stainless? Just don't get a Borla if you are concerned about the wife. They are impossibly loud. NRP isn't loud at all, and it s stainless./

I run stainless on my BMW [ B&B Triflo] and we have stainless on her saab [Remus], she just does not want to spend any extra money on the rover, its the fun "weekend" use vehicle, but at least she knows the benefit of stainless, and as far as loud goes she does not like riding in my car and always knows when I am just around the corner
I think i am able to replace just the large can for now and save money for better off road equipment....
