Good Morning gents and rover ladies. It has been a while since I have requested help. So that should tell you that my D1 is perking. But, there is always a but, my wife was driving down the road and someone pulled out in front of her. She had to brake hard and we noticed the ABS light on. I checked the fuse, tapped lighty on the sensors and still a light. Sometimes when I start the vehicle up and hit the 5 mph the light will go off until I hit the brakes. Can a shop test this through a machine? Thanks

ABS problem likely to be sensor

I had a similar problem in my 96 Disco. The ABS light would stay on periodically instead of going out when I drove off. Sometimes would also come on after a bit pothole etc.

Turned out to be a dodgy sensor. The dealer spent an hour on it getting the gap right and clearing the error codes from the computer. I then went off road and must have jiggled it loose again as it is on all the time now.

Problem is the sensors cost around $1,000 each in Australia.

My suggestion is try getting the sensor realigned properly and if that fails simply live with the light on from time to time. If you go out and hit the anchors hard and the ABS kicks in you know it is working correctly and the fault is with the error checking on start up.
