So the 110's I'm looking at don't have A/C, and they look at you strangely when you ask for it :), does anyone know of a tech link somewhere that covers what you need to get to be able to add it? This would be to a 1993 out of the UK.

Defender a/c is offered in aftermarket kits. These kits are supposedly installed in about 4 hours. Rovers North offers them as does the company that originally made the NAS a/c systems http://www.eliteautomotive.co.uk/html/300Tdidefender.html

You should convert to left hand drive first if thats your intention per your other posts-otherwise you will have to re-purchase many of the components.

Excellent! I assume they're front only systems? Probably need to sort out something to blow cold air in the back too since the Malamute likes it pretty cool, I can stand the heat but it makes her pretty unhappy.

Yes rhd to lhd first but once the truck is bought and on the boat I want to start the component search so they can all come by the cheapest post possible ;)

to blow cold air in the back too since the Malamute likes it pretty cool

when living in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil it was pretty warm most of the year.

what we did on our 110 was to install the dog guard behind the rear seat and then attach a clear plastic sheet over it.

when the windows were open, we rolled it up.
A/C on - rolled down

attached it to the sides of the guard with a small diameter rope and installed grommets in the plastic sheet.

this did 2 things:

1. kept the warm/hot air in the rear area.
2. greatly reduced the area to be cooled.

to add to Ron's comment, rear air was an option on 110s, yet, it really cooled the rear area versus the middle section where our 2 Labs sat.

feel sure it would have helped, however, blocking that area off seemed to work pretty well.

Cool, will need to see if it fits the 200TDI models. Still debating if I should build my own dash, a-la tomb raider, or just get a LHD one when I do the conversion. Probably depend on how sick I am of working on the vehicle by the time I get to that point. :)

I put the deposit down today, and am moving house at the end of the month, once that's sorted I'll be going over to arrange shipment. Very excited.

I'm going to bet on 'a lot'... I'm also going to look into other retrofit options... really it's just like a house split-system so finding a couple heat exchangers, some pipe, and an appropriately sized compressor and some fans and something could be hacked together as well, not as pretty but if I'm going to do a diamondplate dash then it's less critical... more important to make sure things are insulated enough to avoid condensation in unpleasant places :) oh and making sure the drains are better designed than on the Disco... who thought that was a good idea....

I inquired last spring and the front system was around $1200 and the rear around $1000 with the conversion rate @ that time. Shipping it was the killer. I have heard mixed reviews on the rear system. Since you are using the same compressor etc. One fellow in Fla indicated that the rear system was a waste of funds but then another in Arizona said it made a big difference.
If nothing else you would be circulating more cfm past cooling fins- just not sold enough justify 12-1500 bucks on an experiment.

Tony- they make the front systems left or rhd altough you may need one of those fiberglass grill bump out's to fit it in front of that massive radiator Pendy is building you. I have the same monster full width intercooler you do but haven't installed it yet. Looks like I may have the same problem.
